It is a live counter.  Look back to your first post and it will state how many posts you have currently.  It is not a snapshot of your profile at the time.  Just the same as changing your user id, all previous posts will be updated to reflect current profile.

As an aside .. It is simply unreal the amount of crap that is going on on Scoop these past 2-3 weeks, with trolls, flamers, personal attacks, passive aggressive oneupmanship .. One would think we had nothing better to do THAN TALK ABOUT OUR SWEET 16 TEAM.
