Can pretty much close this thread until December 2016.

Maybe November 2016? Might not be ranked, but whoever had them at 25 in the AP should probably give that to us.

LOL One of my childhood friends who is a huge Vandy fan just posted on Facebook that he thinks Marquette will be a Final Four team.

I am sure at least part of that was to explain the whupping his Commodores just got.
Have some patience, FFS.

If we go undefeated in non-conference play and win at least 2 of our 4 games against Nova and Xavier, I might start to take an idea like that seriously.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Dr. Blackheart

KPom moved MU up to #33.  Not really worth much this early other than to say MU outperformed his pre-season predictions in the one game (or Vandy sucks or both).  He has MU 19-10, 10-8 now (excluding the Pitt-SMU game). I think we would all be pleased with that.

source?

Sagarin has us at 37. It's super early but I would be pretty happy with a year-end rpi in the mid 30s, at least it would put us back in the NCAA tournament with an even better year possible next season.

Vanderbilt down to 72/68 Kenpom/Sagarin.
Michigan 31/29
SMU 44/28
Pitt 51/63
UW 8/3

Way too early to discuss this. Let's wait and see what happens with Michigan, Georgia, the Disgusting Rodent and others before we start looking at rankings.

There's only one that matters. It's at the end of the season and it has no curves in it!!!!!!

I feel we can beat michigan, pitt/smu, georgia and the BADgers that could possibly put us in the top 25 if we dont lose any of the cupcakes

Given that that would put us at undefeated in mid December with wins over 5 major conference teams, including one top 10 team, we very well may be ranked in the top 4 in the country if we do that.

Don't be ridiculous. At best we'd be 9th. ;D

Exactly.

We are not Notre Dame football.

His post implies that we would be undefeated going into BE conference play.  So my post was even wrong in saying that we'd be undefeated come mid-December.  It'd be come late December.  If our results for the start to the season are as follows:

11/11 vs. Vanderbilt*: W
11/14 vs. Howard: W
11/17 vs. Michigan*: W
11/18 vs. Pittsburgh/SMU*: W
11/22 vs. IUPUI: W
11/26 vs. Houston Baptist: W
11/30 vs. Western Carolina: W
12/04 at Georgia: W
12/06 vs. Fresno State: W
12/10 vs. Rodents: W
12/19 vs. St. Francis (PA): W
12/21 vs. SIU-Edwardsville: W

And we're sitting at 12-0 with wins over Vandy, Michigan, and SMU on a neutral court, at Georgia, and over top 10 Wisconsin and Fresno State at home going into BE play on December 28, we might be ranked top 3.  How many power conference teams make it through non conference undefeated?  Not many.

+1, good post.

Being ranked is the most important thing a team can do before the tourney.  To say it does not matter means the poster doesn't know what they are talk about.

Consider this

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2012/01/13/bloomberg_articlesLXR71A0YHQ0X01-LXR9Q.DTL

Stanford University received an estimated 36,744 applications for freshman admission -- a record -- as the school's athletics success drummed up attention. ... Stanford, near Palo Alto, California, admitted 7.1 percent of its applicants for the 2011-2012 academic year. Admissions officials had speculated that the tough competition to win a seat combined with reinstated early acceptance programs at Harvard University and Princeton University might have deterred some students from applying to Stanford, Patterson said today in an interview.  "It's a little more than we anticipated," Patterson said. "Stanford did very well in football and Andrew Luck was a leader for the university."  Luck, the Stanford Cardinals quarterback and a two-time Heisman Trophy runner-up, is considered a top National Football League prospect.

---

In my book Stanford is the number 1 academic school in the country and being ranked in football mattered A LOT to them.  More so then their bowl game (which they lost).

So, again, please stop embarrassing yourself by saying being ranked does not matter.

I am fairly certain that being in "the Silicon Valley" with the number of startups that make you an instant millionaire and if you have the ability to invent your own startup (app these days).......The "B" word is then within the realm.....(see SnapChat......really????)

As my niece who got 50 free ride offers told me.....They told her when she visited...."Don't boast about being a National Merit scholarship finalist because we don't even look at applications that are not".....

One of the 3 hardest schools to get into in the country.....

One of the only places I would have paid to send my son.....He only had a 98 average and 1520 on the two important parts of the SAT and knew not even to apply.....A waste of time.....

What more needs to be said.....Condoleezza Rice is the dean of the school and turned down running for president of the U.S. because she has a "better job".....
