A little tidbit I heard a week ago.......mentioned by an analyst on a game I was watching

The last 20 or so( don't remember the exact number) National Champions have been ranked in the top 12 of the AP poll in week 6.

This coming week is the 6th week of the poll I believe.

Neat fact.
I think the Dayton game will tell us a lot on how we will do in the national tournament.

Why? It's a true road game after a week off and 20 conference games (and tournament) in front of them.

It will be a fun, hard game, but I don't think it projects much when it comes to the tournament.

Like in the tournament, Dayton is a talented team we rarely if ever play.
How good can we do against an unknown high level opponent?
We now have 10 games under our belt to better know what type of team we have.

GB Warrior

I agree it'll be informative, but not predictive. You're not playing in an atmosphere like this in March. I'd also say that with transfer, there aren't too many matchups that aren't 'unfamiliar'

We have one of these in Maryland. We had another opportunity in ISU. Dayton is not as good as either of those two, but this will be a good test.

Shaka has shown to be an elite 2H coach. I expect a game that looks like Maryland.

NCMUFan

I hope the outcome will be the same as the Maryland game.
Looking forward to seeing the game.

OK I see what you saying, but I agree with this:

I get what you are saying, but I think it will tell us only a little about how we might fare in the tourney. After their close losses to NC and ISU followed by their beatdown of UCONN, Dayton clearly has the ability to play with the Big Boys.

It would be an impressive W for us if our guys can pull it off. If not....get used to Fieldhouse bragging about it here for at least 6 months.

NCMUFan

Yes, it is only one game out of 30 plus games.
I think MU has a very good team.
Maryland and Georgia only have 1 loss, against MU.  Iowa St only has one loss.
Purdue went down against Penn State on the road for two losses.

Getting back on topic...

I hope scoopers predicting #6 are proven right (or better yet, those saying #5), buI think we end up #7. I have been proven to be too low in my guesses already this season. Let's hope I am again.

My guess...

1) Tennessee
2) Auburn
3) Iowa State
4) Kansas (This is where it gets murky)
5) Duke
6) Marquette
7) Kentucky
8) Alabama
9) Oregon
10) Florida

I could see us landing anywhere from 4-7. Purdue (with a win today) and Gonzaga probably just outside the top-10. Don't really see anyone else with a shot at cracking the top-10.

Brew,

What's your take on the Vols?  I really haven't watched them much.  Are they legit?  Ty.

They are legit.  Best defense in the country IMHO. Played a really soft schedule so far though

They're very good. Barnes has built a great defense first culture, and finding Lanier after Knecht is impressive. So far, Lanier has a higher offensive rating on a higher usage than Knecht did. That will almost certainly fall off, but they aren't just a one-dimensional defensive team like they were for years under Barnes.

Softer than us and others in the top 10 absolutely, but they've dominated the 4 high majors they've played so far. They deserve to be #1.

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

Tennessee's best win so far is Baylor on a neutral floor.  Second win is at Louisville.  They're good, but how good?

Let's see how they do at Illinois next week and the gauntlet of the SEC.

This is around where I am, too. If Mizzou, at home, can upset Kansas, KU will plummet. I think Duke and Kentucky will be ahead of us because their wins over Auburn and Gonzaga will get a little more respect than our win over Madison.

So I'll say 7, with a chance to move up to 6 if KU loses.
