So....What are we ranked on Monday - 1/6/2025?

They're very good. Barnes has built a great defense first culture, and finding Lanier after Knecht is impressive. So far, Lanier has a higher offensive rating on a higher usage than Knecht did. That will almost certainly fall off, but they aren't just a one-dimensional defensive team like they were for years under Barnes.

I find it amusing that Texas dumped Barnes and was happy to see Shaka go in their search for a coach worthy of the Texas name.

So far, Mizzou doing its job against Kansas.

This is around where I am, too. If Missou, at home, can upset Kansas, KU will plummet. I think Duke and Kentucky will be ahead of us because their wins over Auburn and Gonzaga will get a little more respect than our win over Madison.

So I'll say 7, with a chance to move up to 6 if KU loses.

The biggest question will be if Kentucky's win over Gonzaga (compared to Bucky) carries more weight than their loss to unranked Clemson (vs ours at #6 ISU). I could see those going either way, losing to unranked teams is never helpful.

I get the feeling beating the Zags on the road will be viewed as more helpful than the Clemson loss is damaging.

After today's Kansas loss, I'm going to say 4 or 5.

Tennessee and Iowa State for sure ahead of us.  Auburn probably ahead of us.  Then either Kentucky or Marquette.

I have a hard time ranking Tennessee #1 when they haven't really beat anyone. Auburn has the best resume in the country.

I know AP will vote differently, but I think the best teams in the country are as follows:

I'd be surprised if Kentucky would fall from #4 to #6. They were ranked ahead of Marquette last week. They beat #7 Gonzaga and lost a close one on the road to Clemson. Hope I'm wrong.

If Oregon and Duke win I think this is pretty accurate.

Probably so, but because we are talking about Texas, no need to be fair.

Remember the "Fire Shaka" T shirts that the Texas students and fans wore? And Barnes, if I recall, had an off season-maybe even 2-but the Texas fans were simply NOT having it!
