Quote from: HowardsWorld on November 18, 2024, 08:29:57 AMI'll say we move up 1 spot to 14 and Purdue moves up to 8. After we beat them on Tuesday we will move up to the top 10. Wisconsin likely moves up to 22-23 range and holds that until we beat them in early December.

I don't think the win @Maryland does anything for ranking now but it could be the difference in a seed line come March for our resume.

If Marquette never loses again they will make it to #1, so that's cool

I think we stay at 15.

MU passes Arizona but Kentucky passes us.

Zona because they lost. Creighton because they werent that far ahead in votes and have only played cupcakes. Baylor is a stretch but I could see the win @Maryland making some voters reevaluate their ballots and moving us ahead of Baylor because we have a quality win and Baylor got the pants beaten off them in their only real game.

Thanks for this. Makes sense.

This makes sense but I don't have faith in many of the voters to put that much thought into it.

FWIW, I'm seeing some prediction of falling 1 or 2 spots.

I think we stay the same.  Just so little movement and with the number of points we were behind the teams in front of us, I don't see us jumping up.  Heck, if anything, because of some media member's bias for B10 and other conferences, I think Indiana will get more credit for their win against South Carolina than we will against MD and thus drop 1.

wadesworld

Why do people think voters screw over MU?  Or the BE?  We've been very fairly rated since Shaka has arrived.  And heck, were fairly ranked when Wojo was here.

People aren't out to get us.

The Maryland win should pay its dividends in a week or two. When ranked this highly, it's more about the teams in front of you losing. Alabama, UConn, Duke, Iowa St, Houston, Arizona, UNC, and Creighton have all beaten nobody.

MU is hurt by the metrics from the CMU game. It's a joke on this board, but from a metrics perspective, that was basically a loss.

Everybody hates Marquette. And you trying to disavow that with facts and common sense clearly means you hate Marquette, too.

I don't think people are out to get us. However, I don't think the writers are always good at this. There's a lot of funky ballots sometimes.

Same.  I think many of them are just more focused on what they see most.  This often means geographic or conferences they cover most.  Naturally, that'd probably cause them to lean certain ways, not that they purposely hold other teams or conferences back.  Not to mention there's a whole lot of them that just don't seem to know what they're doing!   ;D

I also think MU has been rated fairly since Shaka came aboard.  He's a good ambassador for the MU brand and we've done well in the rankings.

Goose

I do not think MU has been underrated one week during the Shaka era. MU has received a lot of national respect and it has been reflected in the polls, imo.

We did gain 27 votes from last week for what it's worth.

Is it?  Pollsters are going to see the "100" and Arizona and overreact.  Plus, there's a back-of-the-mind thinking, "shoot, we underrated them again."
