Would definitely fit our wing need.  Think we need a big and another guard to go along with that position.  Lots of different options.

They can add shooting.

Sure.

But they can do it without taking a player who's a major defensive liability.

1. Where were you when we were discussing Damarius Owens?
2. Cole would be our worse defender sure. He would also be our 2nd/3rd best offensive player

Certa's numbers make Owens' numbers look like Chase Ross' numbers.

Owens also improved as the season went on (and he recovered from a major offseason surgery). Certa's defense was just bad all season.

Makes sense.  He was recruited by X when Sean Miller was there.  He's now at Texas, and he's from Texas.

I mean. Kinda, sorta, not realy. We got two years of data now. I hope he plays better in the future.

Quote from: Tha Hound on April 09, 2026, 11:13:29 AMHas there been anything tying us to Fru beyond the hopes and dreams of scoop posters?

Onepost has been mentioning Fru for a little while.  Whether that's due to insider buzz, random speculation, or regurgitating Trilly's discord, I have no idea.

But onepost has had reliable information in the past, so I find his posts to be more credible than not.

I don't believe that. Sean Miller wouldn't be engaged in any impermissible recruiting activities.

Cole Certa ended the year very strongly for Notre Dame, averaging 15.8 points with 2.9 made threes a game in ACC play. Some of the schools I have heard are involved with the 6-foot-5 sophomore are DePaul, Marquette, and Louisville. Continue to watch what visits he goes on; things have been kept relatively close to the vest to this point

Don't sleep on this guy. (too easy!?!)

U think there was any shot of us bringing in a top ten transfer?

Nope. Not even a real chance of bringing in any transfer. I heard Shaka told the rest of the team to leave as well--no MUBB in observance of the 50th anniversary of the 1977 team.

I was told Nigel was worth 6m, and Marquette was able to keep him. Better be able to pay 5m for a top ten!

He was a definitively GOOD defender for the last 15 games this year. Yes, the other 75% of his career was rough on that end. Yes, it's a small sample. It's also the most recent sample.

Agree on Micah. He's had one good year with an old, stacked team. Jalen Pickett solved a lot of the coaching problems and Lundy, Funk and Wynter were a great supporting cast.

So Rowsey 2.0?

I found Rowdy entertaining, but not necessarily conducive to producing the high-level team we all desire.

Cole Certa is a 2 guard. Not a Rowsey. Cole just shoots. He is 6'4"-6'5". No assists. No turnovers. He is less good at threes than Rowsey, but thats because Rowsey was unreal. And its is partly because Cole took many shots from NBA range because of Micah.

My guess is the staff knows they can coach some defense, so figure the rest out. It could get them in trouble later. The defense will be more dependant on Nigel, Adrien, and the 5 man.

I loved Rowsey's smirk just as he suckered another defender into attempting to block his 3 pointer at the same time he launched himself forward after releasing the ball.  ;D

"The Thing" was always good for a laugh. The best one was when he got Seton Hall's Angel Delgado. The mic picked up Delgado's laughing as Rowsey was at the FT line. "Ya got me Rowsey. Ya got me.  ;D  ;D

It drives me a bit mental how many times guys since then have caught players in the air on a pump fake and side step around instead of initiating the contact. It's not like Rowseys fake was something that can't be replicated.

Vander Blue Man Group

I've never seen Certa play but others have already summarized my concerns (defense, one-dimensional).

Looking at his game log, he has had a number of explosive games.  Since January 27th, which was his first big outburst, these were his averages over his final 11 games:

19.5 PPG
36.8% 3P% (42/114)
39.3% FG% (66/168) (ick)
82% FT% (41/50)

In his last 6 games, he got to the line 34 time, so maybe he does have a little more to his game than just launching from deep.

Some definite concerns, especially if he can't defend, but if he was added to come off the bench and improved his shot selection and efficiency, maybe there'd be something here.

Again, this is just based at a cursory look of his game logs.
