25 players under par on day 1. That is a lot . Surprised this course is so accessible .

Until they roll the ball back and unless the USGA really tricks up the course, some scoring will be available.  It'll get firmer over the weekend if there isn't rain.

Saudi golfers finished LIII over par, courtesy of Kyle Porter of CBS.

USGA sets up the pin placements with numerous accessible locations on Day 1.  Then on Days 2, 3 and 4, those accessible ones, decline each day.

Also they will not cut the rough and by Sunday, that grass will probably be another inch or so longer.

Many of low scores came yesterday morning and now those players start today in the afternoon, when the winds pick up.  Looked at weather and they may get some thunderstorms this afternoon with more wind than yesterday afternoon. Also they go from 88 degrees today to low 60's on the weekend.

I hope it doesn't rain, because the greens will get a lot firmer, but if it does, the wet rough will be a nightmare.

Really excited for Nick Hardy. He grew up across the street from us and is a really solid young man. This is his first year on the big tour and he's been hampered by injuries - but he's 3 under through 36 at the US freakin' Open! Go Nick!!

Super cool Lenny!  I will keep an eye out for him and be rooting for him, for sure.

Awesome!

I see some shorter hitters are near the top of the leaderboard.

Don't know if he'll win this week but Rory should be a huge favorite heading into St. Andrews

Never hit a meaningful golf future, but Morikawa at 23 to 1 after the first round when he was a few strokes back would be pretty sweet.

Packed.   So many players within a few shots.   Should be a glorious weekend.

Bad missed cuts:

Shane Lowry +4 but was stuck with Hefty and Louis

Billy Ho +4

Daniel Berger +5 both him and Billy need to start showing up in these

Cam Smith +6

Viktor Hovland +7 shot a 42 on the inward 9, rumors circulating he's Saudi bound, though he denied it earlier this week

Tommy Fleetwood +7 Euro Tour Rickie is all flash, no substance

Morikawa and Dahmen will be a fun pairing.
