Fitz with the VandeVeld move on 18 tee…

Vandeveld just won.

Will had four birdie putts on last four holes, made one.

Good for Fitz, good for my wallet and good for golf.  That was fun.

Leaving the birdie putt short on 17 was the bigger miss than 18.

Fitzpatrick hit 17 greens in regulation on Sunday at the US Open. That’s some incredible ball striking.

Zalatoris hit some incredible shots, too - but that putting stroke? No bueno.

Former neighbor Nick Hardy finished +2. Tied for 14th. Won 241,000. Way to go, Nick!

Fitz has gotten much longer off the tee it seems to me.  I'd like to see Brookline added to the USOPEN rotation.

They had some stats on The Golf Channel that showed Fitz average club head speed went up from 112 to over 116 MPH with some swings in the 119 range . That definitely has helped his cause

I thought it was a well balanced course.

Woulda been a much tougher Sunday had there not been overnight rain. Winner probably would have been -2ish

Yeah, it really held up well.  My hunch is, the club isn’t keen on opening the doors to the USGA or any organization for that matter on a regular basis.  Oakland Hills is similar in that regard, though they’ve been added back to the rota.  Even then, they have a 16-year window between opens and the 4 amateur events they’re hosting don’t need infrastructure.

Pebble, Oakmont and Pinehurst look like real anchor sites.  All 3 have the land to accommodate the USGA city and hospitality that gets set up.  Pebble doesn’t close until a week before the open and I’m prettt sure Pinehurst is open for the most part, too.  Oakmont prides itself on being a major venue.  It’s a big commitment and members have to be willing to sacrifice a lot to host these events.

Shinnecock will get its share of US Opens as will Winged Foot but those places are only willing to go once a decade or so to accommodate members.  I hope the USGA keeps trying new spots like Chambers and Erin Hills and LACC next year.  The move towards a regular rota seems to be gaining steam but I think that cuts at their purpose of growing the game.

*2028 is open and it sounds like it might be Winged Foot since they couldn’t have crowds in 2020

His approach shots were too damn good!

During a commercial, I played a YouTube video for my brother to show him how Fitzpatrick chips.

Otherwise, thoroughly enjoyed watching an exciting round with my brother and son -- two other fathers I love.

Seemed like a lot of commercials on the broadcast , I guess others felt the same way . NBC had picked up a big contract that Fox had signed and had to get some payback.
