Glad you finally wove the white flag on the topic at hand. I guess you got tired of the constant goalpost shifting.

Glad you finally admitted Jockey and I are right. Very big of you.

So, are the Packers better this season?

They seem like a trendy pick right? I wouldn't be surprised if they took a bit of a step back. Still not sure about the defense, though I think it's much improved on the back end. Will Love plateau before he takes that next step? We will see.

I think the record will be better.

I agree with Sultan that they could maybe take a slight step backward, though.

The Packers have traded for a new QB2.  Surprisingly, not hologram Bart Starr.   Willis is a marginal upgrade over what they had.   Much like the Lions with Goff, if the Packers are all out of Love, they will be so lost without him.

I'm both in agreement with this but also absent a bolt in the blue backup who turns out to be a diamond in the rough, any team that loses its QB1 for anything more than a spot start or two is boned. Willis, Clifford, fields, who cares? The drop off is big enough that the season is shot no matter who is holding the clipboard.

Well there goes the Anders Carlson experiment. That wasn't a great use of a draft pick.

Drafting kickers or punters is stupid.

There's "specialists are replaceable, lots of street FAs at any moment, just keep trying them until one sticks" as a strategy.

There's "spend capital to get one that locks the position down for a decade +" as a strategy.

Having spent a long time with a solid K and a parade of punters that have been terrible since like Craig Hentrich, I'm sympathetic to the second strategy. However, you actually have to hit on the draft pick for it to work.

The Sultan

Two of the best three kickers in recent Packer history, Crosby and Jacke, were drafted. Longwell was not.

I don't even know who their best punters have been.

Taylor won the Ray Guy and holds the FBS record for career punting average.  I think thats a bit different than someone coming off an ACL injury and less accolades (in Carlson)

Uncle Rico

Bart Starr played in 10 playoff games.  The Packers went 9-1 in those games.  He had a 61% completion in those games, 15 TDs and 3 picks.  He won 2 Super Bowl MVPs.  He still has the second best QB rating in NFL playoff history.

Johnny Unitas played in 9 playoff games and started 8, going 6-2.  His completion % was 53%.  He threw 7 TDs and 10 picks.  His QB rating was 68.9.

Bart Starr wasn't a game manager, well he was, since he called his own plays.  He was a star amongst stars, a legit hall of famer and one of the best playoff QBs to ever play the game.

100% and I am old enough to have watched him play.

That has to be the end of AJ Dillon's time as a Packer.

Probably in the NFL entirely.

It's a bummer because he really does seem like a decent guy. Just never really got it together. He was always supposed to be the bruiser, but his performance never seemed to match the profile. Add a rookie and an overperforming cheap dude in Wilson and the injury (though I'm guessing it's not really a full 17 week long stinger type injury) and there's just no room in a crowded backfield.

He doesn't seem like a decent guy, he's actually a great dude.  Great with fans and very personable.

I think a lot of his tires got used in college, and Jones was always the better fit for the scheme.

Great blocker, and decent receiver out of the backfield.

Yeah, I probably should have gone with a higher personal praise, I'm just always pretty guarded about saying how great of a guy a pro athlete is when I don't actually know them. By all accounts Dillon is a great dude.

Spotcheck Billy

I wouldn't be surprised if Dillon moved into a coaching/player development role.
