The Packers have some tough players. They have soft coaches.

tower912

5 of their losses are to Phillie, Minnesota, and Detroit.  They had a brutal schedule and those teams will finish with 43 regular season wins.  Unless there is a tie tonight.  And they never got their butts kicked.  My conclusion is they are a good team on the cusp of being a very good team.

Disagree.

The QB was not as good as he was to close '23.  Injuries played a part but the mechanics the last month left a lot to be desired.

The wideouts have regressed tremendously.  Outside Kraft, maybe Doubs, they're all replaceable.

The line is fine.  Jacobs was a good pickup but has fumbles in 2 of the last 4 games before today, didn't play half 2.

The front 7 is bad outside Cooper against the pass.  You cannot be successful long term if you can't pressure the QB.  It exposes them in the middle of the defense.

They handled the run mostly fine.  Teams gashed them running WR screens.  The Moore TD is a perfect example.  Terrible angles and discipline.  They can get exposed on the edges because they don't regularly set the edge.

The secondary is ok.  Valentine shined, McKinney was a good pickup.  Bullard and Williams flashed but Williams couldn't stay healthy.  Stokes is unplayable.  Nixon should be a nickel back but has to play because Jaire is out.  They failed to add quality DB depth.

The special teams is terrible.  McManus saved their bacon.

The coaching staff was simply bad this year outside the Willis games and I'm not giving them a ton of credit for beating garbage teams those weeks.  Hafley benefitted from a lot of turnover luck.  Their late game defense is terrible.  My dead grandmother could have completed that throw to close the game today and spiked the ball.

I wouldn't take LaFleur over Campbell or KOC.  Both are better coaches and both are better at identifying coaching talent for their staffs.

You lost me at brutal schedule.

No notes. A lot of average, both on the roster and the coaching staff.

Beat the teams they should beat, except Chicago.  Lost to the elite teams.  Good, not elite.

When that was called, I assumed it was the Bears calling their last TO to keep time on the clock and thought "good use of a TO late in the game for once".   But then when I saw it tick off the Packers side on the game bug and realized MLF took it, I was absolutely baffled.

Address him missing next season through the draft or free agency?

A free agent WR in Green Bay?

Not happening

So in retrospect, the Packers went 2-5 against playoff teams. The only wins were against the Texans and an injury-riddled Rams. They went 9-1 against non playoff teams, which included the lowly AFC South and NFC West.

Next year they have nine playoff teams on their schedule. (Vikings and Lions twice, Commanders, Ravens, Steelers, Eagles and Broncos.) Plus Joe Burrow and the Bengals. And at the Cowboys.

I have a feeling there will be quite a fall off next season.

Unless they're willing to upgrade via FA or trade, it'll be more of the same.

I don't know it possible to have enough talent to overcome LaFleur and Hafley being total clowns.

This is the crap situation we find ourselves as Packers fans, LaFleur wins just enough to keep his job.  An astute president and GM would see him for who is despite the modest regular season success and replace him.

Truly hard to believe a head coach being that stupid.

LaFleur is a good offensive coach and good locker room guy. Freezes up at times in game. Not terrible. Not great.

I honestly think the defensive issues are in part coaching, but more about lack of talent. Honestly who is a A-level player on that side of the ball?

Detroit just held Minnesota to 9 points with a completely makeshift defense.  I'm really tired of lack of talent excuses for their sh@@ty coaches.  Hafley showed himself a total imbecile on the third down play.

By the way, I'd call McKinney A level.  That's hardly debatable.

Well they have a lack of talent on defense. Sorry you can't see that.

LaFleur has had 3 coordinators.  At some point, the blame lies on the talent.

That said, Hafley has had some bafflers this year and his end of game defensive strategy has been awful, so two things feel true here

I'm not saying he's great by any means.

Why are the Packers replacement level players on special teams so much worse than every other team's replacement level players on special teams?

The Packers are very young and don't put enough emphasis on it.
