Quote from: The Hippie Satan of Hyperbole on December 06, 2024, 11:25:38 AMI'm suggesting that the top priority when you are behind is to score. And Detroit was loading the box, and taking their chances with Love beating them. And he almost did.

Criticizing an offense when they scored 24 points in the second half is misguided. The blame is on the defense.

Well, yes, scoring is important.  But leaving the opponent a bunch of time to retaliate is generally bad... which is why Detroit took its time marching down the field and ending the game without allowing Green Bay to have a chance.

If the offense was having its way with Detroit, then shaving time off the clock is important to give your defense a rest and disallowing Detroit time to do whatever it wants (which it was doing).

The Packers got the ball with 8:40 to play in the game.  There was no way the Packers were going to be able to run the entire 8:40 out, especially with a 2 minute warning and 3 Detroit timeouts available.  If anything, their 5:01 drive was too long.

Yes and the problem was the drive ended in a FG.  They had to have a TD there to force Detroit to do the same. Everyone knew Detroit would for sure get a FG, even though Campbell almost stupidly screwed that up even.

This talk about leaving too much time is asinine.  Score a TD and you give yourself a much better chance to win.  They were right on the doorstep of that until Watson's penalty. Maybe the defense could have at least prevented a TD then.  The game is about TD's, not FG's.

Funny that you chose not to criticize Reed who was 100% invisible.

Well, Reed didn't commit any obvious OPI. Watson did.  I have no idea what's funny to you.

Great advice.  Score TDs.

Kinda think he was supposed to clutter up the area, but the defender ran flat into him and fell down. Watson even tried to make it look less obvious right before the collision.

Much more annoyed by the fumble than by that.

Name 1 play Reed made in the game. You hate Watson so much that you will defend a guy who didn't even show up.

I'll take the guy giving an effort every time. You can have the guy who made zero plays.

I "hate" Watson?  If we're critical of someone, we hate them?  He is unreliable and inconsistent. What we've all seen doesn't lie.

I don't know what happened with Reed last night. Maybe game plan, amount of attention Detroit secondary gave him, Love not getting him the ball, all of the above?  Calling out last night as an example he doesn't work hard, doesn't care, whatever is really an overreaction. though.  The guy's been very productive and reliable for two seasons.  He's been out there every game. It was one game he didn't produce for reasons no one other than he and the coaches know.

The call on Watson was what LaFleur was so mad about.

Not because they called that one, but because just before it St. Brown did the same thing, and was not called, and then on a crucial 2nd and 10, the Detroit TE had an equally egregious OPI, which had it been called it would have been 2nd and 20 from the 50.

Rams.  LaFleur can't beat San Francisco when it matters

Niners.

Then, after the Seahawks beat the Packers on Sunday night, Seattle will have a 2-game lead on the division with 3 to play.

That was a pretty nice pitch and catch between Love and Watson.

That was pretty embarrassing clock management. Yikes. Good half though.
