Phenomenal episode. Incredibly well done. I'm terrified at all they need to fit into the finale.

I know nothing about how they told the story in the game, but that was a beautiful episode of television.

I saw this post before I watched the episode and I was mad at myself for seeing what I thought might have been a spoiler. What crazy thing was gonna happen?!?!

But it obviously didn't spoil anything. And after watching one incredible hour of TV, I second your thought. And I appreciate Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey all the more. As well as the TLOU writers.

Oh, and shout out to Joe Pantoliano, too. I recognized Ralphie's voice immediately. He portrayed Eugene perfectly.

I really appreciate that the writers aren't asking us to be equally engaged in a show carried solely by Pascal or Ramsey.  That's a really tough balance to strike - you can't just keep the buddy comedy going in the same way forever or that gets tired.  But I've also been a little less invested than I should be in Ellie's solo storyline that don't at least touch on Joel.  A lesser show or lesser writers would have insisted we stay equally invested in a post-Joel world, but this has been a great balance.  [Note: I haven't played the games.]

It's done nicely. This episode reminds me what it's all for, misguided as it is. Still not sure how they bring it all home next week but thought them bundling the flashbacks was a really nice adaptation vs the game's dispersed ones.

No idea what I'll watch after next week now that both that and Andor are wrapped.

Quote from: reinko on May 13, 2025, 08:44:07 AMWhile S4 takes a bit of step back, every episode still provides multiple laugh out loud moments, and I would put episode 4 when they went to the lake house in the pantheon of funniest 30 min of not only Gemstones, but all of Danny McBrides shows.

I watched episode 1 and 2 last night. I couldn't help notice that in one of the boat scenes John Goodman's coaching hat from Revenge of the Nerds was hanging right behind him.

I rented Green and Gold on Amazon. Good story about farm life with the Packer's as part of the plot and impact on the community. The film was made in Wisconsin and worth a look.

I saw it .. I liked it better when it was called Field of Dreams.  Farmer down on his luck, bank foreclosing, sports angle, and the townsfolk save the day.  Same movie.

Did the townsfolk save the day in FOD?  They seemed like most Iowa Christians, in that they mocked Ray and the bank was going to foreclose until ghosts saved the day.

Showrunner says TLOU is going to need not only a season 3 but also a season 4 to finish the second game.

That's welcome news for me, though it does make some of the pacing choices this season interesting. If there are two more seasons to come, they have plenty of time. I'm wondering if they filled this season, not knowing if they would get a season 4. If they do get two more seasons, I wonder if they add in anything that they skipped already to later in the story.

I liked Green and Gold, but if you want a good movie about folks in Wisconsin, I highly recommend this one.

As a bonus, you can watch it for free on Tubi, Roku Channel or YouTube.

There is also Patriot on Amazon Prime.  There are two seasons.  It's supposed to take place in Milwaukee and Luxembourg.  It has Kurtwood Smith from That 70's Show and Terry O'Quinn.  It's listed as a Drama-Comedy.

If I recall, the principal filming for "Milwaukee" was done in Chicago.  I remember debating watching it years ago, finding that portion out, and moving on.

Also, Luxembourg is a gorgeous, very cool little country Ive spent some time in...and it wasn't filmed there either.

Not that surprising on either account, if you know anything about what filming consists of and takes.  But still removed an interesting draw to it.

(Nothing compared to the BS that was The League though.  The laziest representation of Chicago, and of an actual famous restaurant in Chicago.  Especially at a time that countless shows and movies were actually filming in Chicago...still loved the show immensely though)

I watched Coherence with my daughter this week. It's a very low budget sci-fi film from about 10 years ago - like $50k. It was worth watching. Actually, I think I'll probably watch it again because it's one of those films that I suspect I'll notice a lot of things I missed on the first viewing.

So for those that were watching, what are your thoughts on the finale and the season as a whole of The Last of Us?

Overall, I thought it was well done and there were some standout moments and episodes (2 & 6).

However, it did feel like something was missing a bit for me.

The Seattle episodes felt a bit rushed to me.  Also, some of them felt too short.  I played both games but it's been 4 years so I don't remember what they may have condensed or skipped over.

2-3 more episodes and longer lengths would have been nice.

Additionally, I was very curious going into the season how they were going to manage the Ellie and Abby storylines.  I would have guessed that they would have jumped back and forth between both considering the medium but they chose to keep it similar to the game, which surprised me.  I'm not sure if that was the right way to go - I guess we'll see.

That being said, I think Kaitlyn Dever is great so I am really looking forward to her being the focus in S3.

Finally, while the online discourse is pretty toxic and I've found most of the criticism to be laughable, one that is starting to gain a little more credibility is how Ellie was written this season, especially compared to the game.  Less competent, less laser-focused on revenge, etc.

I get it's an adaptation so I certainly don't expect or want an exact replica but I think there are some valid points there in regards to what Mazin did with her this season.

Curious to hear some of your thoughts on these points and anything else anyone wants to bring up.

I think the finale was the worst of season, but still solid.  Did not play the game, but the TV writers and producers just made some weird choices with Ellie in my opinion.  Constantly showing her ineptitude, lack of patience and skill, and EVERYONE around her (Dina, Tommy, Jesse...) just do everything in their power to kowtow to her, and it kinda seems unearned.

And the scene of Ellie and the Seraphites was so out of place, and you are telling me those folks have a blade to her neck, hear an explosion, and they just walk away?

Like you, excited for an Abbie centered season, hopefully we wont have another 2-3 year wait.

It was fine. I just wish they had paced it differently. An extra episode would have gone a long way. While I maintained it was rushed (we're gonna give the back half of the game 2 seasons?!?), I thought they laid some important groundwork in Dina and Ellie's relationship. Will be interested to see where they take Tommy for what we know about his role leading up the encounter.

Kaitlyn Dever is going to be incredible. For those that have not played, I'll leave it at Abby's character having really incredible depth, and I think she's an actress that can nail it.
