Quote from: GB Warrior on May 05, 2025, 09:50:09 AMI'm underwhelmed by Bella Ramsey's acting this season. She was great for younger Ellie, but the demeanor hasn't shifted enough to meet the tone this season demands.

*Non specific spoilers for TLOU*

I know thats a popular sentiment among the fanbase right now,  but I don't think I agree yet.  Ramseys only had one opportunity so far to act out Ellies dark side (her big line to Abby in episode 2) and I thought she nailed it.  My recollection of the game is that by the point we are currently in the show,  Ellie hasnt really had any dark moments. The trip with Dina feels more like a girls roadtrip, very light despite the mission. It's not until later that things shift. I'll judge her fit after shes had a few more opportunities because right now shes 1/1 imho

but then you have to watch Real Housewives of Orange County. Is it really worth it?

I'll give you that. I think we'll have a much better idea after the next 2 episodes.

The fan reaction is really fascinating.  I definitely wouldn't consider myself a "gamer"  but I did play both games in full and loved them (thanks to being furloughed during Covid).  The twist in the 2nd game really shocked me at the time, as well.

Thus, I've been really look forward to the show.  Season 1 more than lived up to my expectations and I've really enjoyed season 2 so far.

Because I had last played the games a few years ago, especially in regards to Part 2, I've forgotten a number of the details (for example, who went out on patrol in the game vs. how they changed it in the show).

For the most part, I think the changes they've made for the show have made sense narratively.  I like that they've full-fleshed out Dina and have given her more agency.  She has a reason for going to Seattle with Ellie aside from their relationship.

However, and I assume it's a very vocal minority, but some of the criticisms I've seen on Twitter from the diehard gamers have been so ludicrous it's hard to comprehend at times.  One person was sincerely angry that the lighting in the lodge in S2E2 was different than the lighting in the game.

These people are truly insufferable.

Anyway, looking forward to the last 3 episodes.  I think it's about to get really dark now.

Bummed the season feels so short and that we likely have to wait until 2027 for S3.

I did think we'd see more of Abby than we have so far.  Curious to see if we see any more of her before the season is over.

This season of the Rehearsal has been absolutely jaw dropping. Nathan fielder is a genius

Quote from: JWags85 on May 03, 2025, 09:06:50 AMHuge fan of the show and the first seasons, but this season of Hacks has been terrible.  Cliches, predictable, and kind of lazy with the tropes, IMO.   A show that used to make my wife and I cackle out loud every episode is now just a smattering of chuckles

I am encouraged by the most recent episode of Hacks. The Deborah/Ava story arc had gotten stale, but the latest developments suggest a meatier storyline will emerge that more resembles the heart and soul of the first two seasons.

Here's hoping!

We got into The Righteous Gemstones a few weeks ago and powered through the first three seasons. Loved it. We'll start S4 when we're done with S5 of You. The first three seasons of You were awesome, S4 a major disappointment. S5 has more than made up for it. Penn Badgley is incredible in the role.

What did people think about TLoU? I personally thought it was a real twist to build sympathy for Abby's dad because he was a doctor, only for it to turn out to be justified because he was a dentist.

Abby's dad would have fired Nora a long time ago if he was still alive

You might want to stop after S3 of Righteous Gemstones. Show should have ended there IMHO. Though there is an all time great Baby Billy line in the penultimate episode

Just binged watched Four Seasons with the wife. Nothing earth shattering as far as the relationship stereotypes, but I thought many of the characters ended up being great and as someone who has been married 25 years, kinda makes you stop and reassess a bit.

I thought S4 of Righteous Gemstones was bonkers. There are a couple episodes that I couldn't believe were written, in a good way.

A friend said the same thing, but then another sitting next to him said he didn't like S3 and thought S4 was "redemption." I came this far, I'll finish is up.

While S4 takes a bit of step back, every episode still provides multiple laugh out loud moments, and I would put episode 4 when they went to the lake house in the pantheon of funniest 30 min of not only Gemstones, but all of Danny McBrides shows.

Yeah it's hard to beat season 3. I didn't think it was at all bad but felt like it ran out of steam. It was always gonna be hard to top Baby Billy's Bible Bonkers

We enjoyed it, too. A solid "good but not great" half-hour comedy from Tina Fey and company.

@GB Warrior I think Bella is 2/2 now.

Loved episode 5. No notes. Have no idea where they are planning to cut off season 2 or how they'll wrap this is up in only more season (unless ita more than 7 episodes). I'm afraid that the middle third of the game is going to get condensed to a single episode or something

Loved it. Agree entirely. My fear is they're going to rush it with only two episodes left, and this next one being what it was revealed to be. There is so much left to explore before the game's midpoint, and my fear is that it will leave some storylines under-developed. I think one more episode in the season would have gone a long way.
