Wednesday 12/29 @ St. John's
« on: December 27, 2021, 01:52:57 AM »
There are a lot of unknowns right now in College Basketball, so there is a chance this game doesn't get played at all, however...

Assuming the game is able to be played I think this Marquette team is up against its biggest test of the year. Is St. John's the best team they've played? Probably not but given the circumstances this would be the best win of the season to this point.

First of all it would be the 1st Conference win of the season. They are also coming off of Christmas break in which they'll likely have to regain some of the conditioning they built up before the break. To add to that they will be traveling to New York, which is difficult in it's own right, but now even moreso with COVID surging. In addition to that, they are almost certainly going to be an underdog on the road. A lot is happening and I'm sure it's a whirlwind for a lot of these young guys.

If they are somehow able to focus on just playing basketball once the ball is tipped and they find a way to come home with a win, I think it deserves some major celebration from us as fans.

Did not know that. Thanks. Clearly I have spent too much time away from Scoop.

Is this game even going to happen?
I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Not at all surprised.  CBB is in big time trouble.

If the Big East wants to be proactive to get as many games in as possible, MU @ Creighton on Wednesday would make a lot of sense.

Looks like Creighton’s arena is open that evening. Both programs had their midweek games canceled due to Covid.

Yes, they need to get very creative and flexible with scheduling going forward.

Postponed, forfeited, who cares?

Missed games are missed games. And it’s just gonna get worse over the next few weeks, so many will never be replayed.

Very disappointing news. We are on lockdown at our house due to multiple positive covid cases in the family and the game on Wednesday was the one bright spot for the week.

News

A handful of mild cases in the family, all vaccinated and boosted, but laying low for the moment. Easy week to lay low and be extra careful. That said, I think I might limit exposure to big crowds until things get better.

Until they just let them play with omnicron if they are vaxxed and boosted, this is gonna be a month of postponements and random players missing games.

Postponed means it's put off 'til a later time. With all these postponements, it seems unlikely that all these games will ever be played, given the scheduling difficulties and the constraints of time. Why not be honest and call it a cancellation? Are they trying to not hurt people's feelings?

And why the overreaction? If Omicron causes only mild symptoms, but confers immunity to Covid,
why not let it spread? That would take care of the unvaccinated, and perhaps we'd have a real chance to see the end of this thing.

I'm no doctor (of medicine that is), but that does not seem to be a good idea. I really don't think anyone knows exactly what's next in line with Covid. Will it combine with other coronaviruses? Here's a good article written even before Omicron spread like wildfire.
