Did no one pay attention to the football/non-football conference Big East experiment?

Completely agree with you. Yormark wants to split up the basketball and football contracts in 2031. I think that is what is driving these decisions - every conference thinks they can get 2 different contracts.

I think it's a little different. GCU and Gonzaga are joining knowing they will always be tag-alongs, but if it is lucrative for them, they will happily tag along.  This isn't an equal number of football and non-football members having an existential crisis about the conference - especially since its historic success was in basketball and not football.

Surprised MWC would bring a slime ball coach into the conference.
Maybe. But will Creighton and St. John's?
They look like the class of league right now. Have not seen Johnnies play, but Creighton looks awesome.

Mountain West adds UC Davis as an "everything but football" member. They will be their tenth member, and second (along with Grand Canyon) who doesn't sponsor FBS football.

Davis may eventually elevate to FBS football as they are a very good FCS program in the Big Sky.

I believe the IRS considers them a non-profit university, but the US Dept of Ed does consider them a for-profit university. Politics!

It's not politics. It's two federal agencies reviewing financial data and coming to two different conclusions because of the standards they apply. Anyway, the courts are sorting it out.

Quote from: Uncle Rico on November 02, 2024, 03:33:24 PMJesus was a capitalist

Are you kidding me?

Jesus was as big a socialist as ever existed. He advocated sharing with "the least of my brothers," called on us all to feed the hungry, clothe the naked and cure the sick. He defined brother (and sisters) so broadly that he meant everyone. That "love your neighbor as yourself" bit certainly wasn't capitalism!"

Capitalist Jesus would have told us, "Profit off your neighbor. Maximize your net income by identifying what he or she needs and selling at the highest price possible with the lowest production costs!"

There's a lot of things you can say about Jesus, but capitalist ain't one of 'em!

20 "For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard. 2 He agreed to pay them a denarius[a] for the day and sent them into his vineyard.

3 "About nine in the morning he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. 4 He told them, 'You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.' 5 So they went.

"He went out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same thing. 6 About five in the afternoon he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, 'Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?'

7 "'Because no one has hired us,' they answered.

"He said to them, 'You also go and work in my vineyard.'

8 "When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, 'Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.'

9 "The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius. 10 So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. 11 When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner. 12 'These who were hired last worked only one hour,' they said, 'and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.'

13 "But he answered one of them, 'I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn't you agree to work for a denarius? 14 Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. 15 Don't I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?'

So, socialism, as they were all paid the same.

I know Jesus is capitalist but he'd definitely be against NIL and would play for the name on the front of the jersey and not the back
