Coach K and Pitino think an ACC-BigEast merger is necessary to compete with the mega conferences like the Big101418 and SEC. Lots of obvious logistical issues, most prominent being the gridirons sharing revenue with the non-football schools.

In reference to the above post. It was said on the Pod Cast The Big East has a 12 Year 500 million dollar deal. Is that correct and the person on the Podcast felt that was a terrible deal. Is that correct
Marquette is friends with UCONN and has been doing better since UCONN rejoined The Big East and of course since Shaka came too.  Agree with Coach K and Coach Pitino since feel staying with UCONN is best for Marquette.

They're wrong. The ACC has no reason to do this.

Would it allow them to renegotiate their terrible TV deal they are locked into for the next eleven years?

I doubt it. The has been coaches don't know anything about that anyway. They are just being overly romantic about the role basketball plays in the college sports landscape and think that acquiring a boatload of teams will help the ACC and BE.

It didn't work for the OBE. You ended up with a bunch of schools with different priorities. Why go back to that?

Schools are trying to leave the ACC on the first thing smoking.

I agree. I have no interest in merging.  I'd rather see what scraps are left behind if (more likely when) the ACC falls apart.

The ACC is the next conference to get picked apart.  UNC, Virginia, Clemson, FSU and Miami will be prime targets for the Big 18 and SEC.  Georgia Tech will probably be in the because they're in Atlanta.

The rest will be scavengered by the Big XII.  At best, you might have Wake Forest left.  The Big XII will take Syracuse, Louisville, NC State, Pitt, Duke, VaTech and BC.

The Big East is perfect as is.  They are not getting Duke or Syracuse or some other football schools.

That would put the B12 at 23 schools.  I can't see any conference going that high.

I also don't think the B12 would have an interest in any of those schools except maybe Louisville.

The Big 18 and SEC will eventually push 20 plus and probably split into divisions for television purposes and scheduling purposes.

The Big XII will do the same.  And if they don't, then you'd almost certainly have some kind of merger of the remaining ACC with the AAC or some of the AAC schools like Memphis jump ship and join the corpse of the ACC.

Football will always drive the ship, even for the left behind schools of the ACC.

Maybe they can rename the conference the NCAA and name the divisions the Pac12, ACC, and B12.

Just one question - how likely is it that UConn actually stays? As much as I'd love for them to remain where they are, it's hard for me to imagine a future in which UConn doesn't eventually leave in pursuit of more money. Their talks of moving to the Big 12 were only "paused" after all.

IMO, most likely it is only a matter of time but I don't see UCONN and the Big XII or ACC doing anything until something else happens. If everything remains at the status quo, UCONN will be a Big East member.

If UConn is going, and whichever conference it is says "hey Nova, Marquette, Georgetown, y'all wanna come too?" we need to say yes before they even finish the question.  Don't get left behind.

MU and the BE has to be open to all options. While not in a position of power, the Big East has a lot to offer so it will be up to Val to  walk the fine line of being receptive but not over playing our hand. I trust her.

If I recall....it was the Big 12's network partner that indicated they would not come up with any more money for the addition of UCONN. I may be mistaken, but I think that's what shut it down before it came to a B12 presidents' vote.
Wild horses couldn't drag me into either political party, but for very different reasons.
