First time I’ve watched a full MSU game this year. I was surprised at how much of a role player he is on that team.

It’s evident that Markus and Sam really opened up a lot for him in his year at MU. Joey really couldn’t get open and is pretty low usage as a result. His choice though. Seems he’s on a good team that’s winning.

That's the irony. Joey had to get away from The Cancer ... but it was Markus (and yes Sam) who made it possible for Joey to get shots.

For Izzo, Joey gets hardly any shots at all. He mostly is a screen-setter and defensive rebounder. Which is fine. Every good team needs those. He had a pretty good game yesterday, and it's always fun to watch the home team get pounded in Madison.

Maybe Joey didn’t like what Markus stood for as the face of FCA?

Maybe. Or maybe Vanilla Soft Serve just needed his blankie.

Joey with a soft lay-up miss to close the half vs Illinois.  He doesn't appear to have improved under Izzo imo.

Thank goodness he got away from Mean Markus so he could be beloved at MSU.

But really, I don't know what their fans are complaining about. Scored 8, had 7 boards, 0 turnovers, made a 3 ... in other words, one of his better games as a Spartan.

Well he had 2 pts 1 rebound on 1/5 in the 1st half when these comments were made.

Yes.  This wound up being a very good game for Hauser the Younger based on his current production levels.  The kid hasn't improved much (if at all) from my observations.  It's interesting that a certain monitor (from another website) excoriated me constantly for disagreeing with him that Joey had the skills to play PG.  Yet, he has as much of a chance of playing PG as I do stopping Justin Lewis one on one.

So what you're saying is that in the face of criticism Vanilla Soft Serve rallied to have a productive(-ish) second half. He's da man!

Wow. I don't know how bad a judge of basketball talent you'd have to be to think Joey could play PG. I far less of a Joey basher that most here but that it just a ludicrous idea.

Can you see Joey attempting to bring the ball up or initiate the offense with Bryce Aiken or Posh Alexander guarding him?
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

That's exactly what I was thinking after watching him play one game in a Marquette uniform.  It's very poor analysis and we heard the same idiocy about Henry Ellenson.  Because a tall guy can dribble doesn't tell you anything about whether he can play PG or even the 2 or 3.

C'mon.  You know that in the past few years, there are posters in the game thread (we all know who they are) that have said things just as bad (and worse) about even the best players on our team.
Have some patience, FFS.

Perhaps.  I believe my initial retort was that Muggsy Bogues had a better chance of playing the 5.  Can you imagine Josephi Hauser trying to dribble full court vs Muggsy?

For sure.  Still, it’s pretty tame and isolated here versus social media posting of Sparty fans, for the most part.  Most of the social media “attacks” about Marquette during games largely focused on the coaches through the years

Yeah ... even the yahoo who called Markus a "cancer" only did so here, not out in the twitterverse.

Not to excuse those who would use Scoop to attack Marquette players, of course.

He still thinks Joey could play PG. And he definitely believes Sam could play point guard. Except in that Georgetown game when we needed a PG after Markus went out in the first couple minutes and Sacar was the emergency PG for 38 minutes LOL.

Sam handled the basketball plenty in that game and did a good job, with only 2 turnovers to go with his 31 points. Sacar also did well, though our assist leader actually was Joey with 6 (he also had 5 turnovers in a sign of things to come).

https://gomarquette.com/sports/mens-basketball/stats/2018-19/georgetown/boxscore/6130

The Markus-haters point to that game as "proof" of what Sam could have been had the selfish Markus not denied him the ball.

Of course, Sam averaged 20.4 points over the next 5 games, with Markus averaging 37 minutes and 4.4 assists. Sam didn't score as much in the 11 games after that ... because his shooting percentage plummeted from .541 to .423.

And at Virginia, with Markus long in his rear-view mirror, Sam averaged a whopping 0.6 more FGA per game than he did his junior year at Marquette. He won the exact same number of NCAA tournament games, too.
