Great get by the coaching staff.   Some members here cannot be happy no matter what.
Totally agree

Cartons Instagram post shows him on the court in an *empty* Fiserv Forum. Sigh :(

Hope we get to see these guys play this year as it should be a fun team.

On the chance that we don't and college basketball runs fan-less, how about schools like MU gaining revenue by selling "tickets" that amount to live-stream of all huddles, halftime locker-room, pre and postgame LR, and the bench during live play? It would certainly be easy to hear all the banter from the bench, including coaching instruction. Also, could players be "MIC'd" for these same purposes, separate from the FS1 telecast?

Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere...I'm just wondering how schools are going to maintain any semblance of a non-TV related revenue stream if the sport proceeds fan-less for a season.
Zenyatta has a lot....a lot... of ground to make up. She gets there from here she'd be a super horse......what's this.....Zenyatta hooked to the grandstand side....Zenyatta flying on the outside....this....is...un-belieeeeeevable!...looked impossible at the top of the stretch...

I doubt you would find many takers for this.

I think what you are going to do is see schools pushing the fundraising to benefit the program a bit more.  But even that might be a tough sell given the economic environment.  One thought if they aren't going to be able to have crowds is to see if they could get out of the Fiserv lease for a year.  Might as well play at the Al if you can't have crowds.

They could run a lottery with minimal attendance with appropriate distancing for the winners at  whatever venue.

Listing and taking on water.

This must be right up there with when you read in the Marquette Trib that Lloyd Walton had signed with Marquette.

Were you quaffing an RWB in the Lanche as you took in those joyous words?

Well, we got 2 meat lovers to congratulate Wojo. Not surprisingly the one who loves the meat the most has nothing to say about Carton or the signing, though.

Honest question: why do people feel strongly that he will get a waiver? I don't have a great understanding of the eligibility / waiver process. Are there precedents for this same situation?

Mostly because Ohio State has been supportive since he left the team in February.  That he simply wasn't happy there.

I could see him sitting the first semester, but I think if he has to sit the whole year the blowback from the media-types will be overwhelming, especially since the NCAA is looking to waive the sit-one-year requirement.

Mr. Sand-Knit

Seems to me if the kid has any reasoning beyond not liking where he is and then moves significantly closer to home the odds go dramatically up.  Heron at SJU as an example.
Carton moving significantly closer to home should help him.  Wouldnt be surprised if he got a waiver or maybe eligible second semester

I don't think this would happen. But if it does, I sure hope "live stream" still means it would be shown on a delay and that comments by coaches, players and others would be monitored. Because interractions can get pretty heated, and even "playful banter" might upset many viewers.

With the NCAA likely to remove the sit-out requirement as soon as next month, I imagine they're going to be very liberal in granting waivers. And DJ's reasons for transferring seem to go beyond the usual reasons (i.e. seeking more playing time, conflict with the coaching staft, etc.).

Marquette was in his final 6 out of high school but didn't make his final 3. Clearly those inroads made back then have now paid off, though.

When I saw his post on Twitter last night (which was liked by a number of fellow MU followers), I honestly thought it was a troll/joke.  I believed someone simply photoshopped the pics for clicks and/or on-going discussion (to only fuel the fire of missing out on Turner/Burton/etc.).  The amount of joy I had when I found out it be real cannot be put into words.

Regardless, welcome to MU, DJ.  Congrats to Wojo and staff for getting an impact player.  Looking forward to watching him in the Blue and Gold.

Well - It's a GREAT thing we have you here  Without Bias (I mean Wadesworld), to keep us all up to speed on interpreting body language and social media needs of 17 year old boys.  Please keep us up to date on your hot takes as it relates to Mane, and others this transfer season.

Signing Carton was HUGE to fill the HUGE hole on our roster going into Year 7.  As has been said many times, we are going to need Top 30/5-star talent at MU for us to win under Wojo.

And Dawson looks much more interested in his phone than in anything else. Yikes. Didn't announce his visit like he did the others on Twitter just retweeted something from his high school.

Not feeling good right now.

The biggest thing Dawson seems to like about Indiana is all the attention their fan base has given him.  He shares all the stories IU fans post on Instagram about him being at IU (and does the same for the other schools like Memphis and Minnesota, it just happens less from those fans), shares Tweets from other fan bases, etc.  Let's show this kid some love.  To me this is the biggest swing recruit in the Wojo era.  If we land him I think this program can take off.  If we don't I think we stay at the level we've been seeing the last few years.  If we land Garcia I think we'll have a real shot at Brown for 2021 and Mane for 2020.  And if we land those two look out.

Not saying be a creep and try to hunt him out based on where he's Tweeting from, but I'm guessing he'll share some Instagram pictures in a Marquette uniform (he's done so with the other 3 finalists).  Put those in your stories and let him know he's wanted here.  He seems to genuinely enjoy that kind of love and hopefully Marquette fans can make an impression on him this weekend.

I was casually scrolling twitter and then I saw the post and I immediately jumped up off the couch and started yelling to my wife across the house that we just got DJ Carton. She doesn't have the slightest clue who DJ Carton is and basically called me a lunatic. But it was good to be excited about Marquette Basketball again.

I wonder what kind of role Markus had in the Carton commitment? I have to imagine there was a conversation or two. And, given Markus' respect for Wojo, I'm sure that played a part. If he did contribute to the commitment, that's quite a farewell gift that he gave MU fans.

I second that, Markus was given the keys to the school and he used it, he took total advantage of the opportunities MU gave him, ie. Travel overseas, school travel with
non-basketball kids even though they built a court, plus the press he got this year for MU was insane.  It surely had to make an impression on Carton, now hopefully
Mane.  Backcourt of Mane and Carton, would be interesting to say the least.
