If anyone is interested in what Marquette is getting in Carton, I dug into the advanced numbers a bit:

Someone posted our rating with different transfer scenarios. Can’t find it. What is our before/after with Carton?

Thanks.

It's in the Twitter thread I posted above. Jumps up from 78 to 53 according to T-Rank.

Of course Potrykus has to write the article this week, and just can't help himself from tweaking MU fans..

He could file for a wavier to play immediately in 2020-21 but is also reportedly considering a pro career if he does not receive a waiver.

Let's face it, this has been a tough month plus for the fans and Wojo has taken a lot of heat (I won't comment as to whether or not he deserved it).  One thing no one can deny, Wojo and his staff work their tails off and at time like this there's a BIG payoff.  A huge void on this team has been filled.  Congrats and welcome to the team DJ!

Not sure how that’s tweaking. Just reporting what was speculated.

I would certainly hope not for a lot of reasons.  I’m sure they didn’t

Ya that would be really dumb, a backcourt of carton n turner would be incredible!!

So DJ left Ohio State due to mental health issues, which of course is a topic Howard was very outspoken about. Did this have any part in DJs decision? Does Marquette have any student mental health programs that perhaps other universities don’t have?

Have to admit--SURPRISED!  Hope he's eligible for this year. Now if MANE
says MU. Still not on the Wojo and staff bandwagon but they did reel in
a GREAT class of recruits. Now if CARTON is eligible. Hope Wojo doesn't screw it up with his coaching.

Obviously the waiver is a big hurdle, but provided it’s granted...when’s the last time Marquette had 2 top 30 recruits on the floor together?

Happy to give Woj his props.

Good for you, Doc. I know it wasn't easy for you to have to put away the green wienie.

Great get.

Why do we think he'll get a waiver?

Great get.

Why do we think he'll get a waiver?

Very publicly left OSU due to confront his mental health issues. Received a ton of publicity, from mainstream sports news to podcasts to television. Both Chris Holtmann and Carton's mother spoke out publicly about the issues he was dealing with, expressing their support. The Ohio State community strongly lined up behind Carton as he took his leave from the team.

I didn't think Carton was going to transfer, but it was clear on February 1 that if anyone was going to be granted a waiver this year, it was going to be DJ Carton, especially if he transferred closer to home. It's a high profile player who went through a high profile situation and had the support of his family and team behind him in a very public way. I don't think there's any way the NCAA turns that one down. Especially with how liberally they granted basketball waivers last year and the increased stresses on the system from COVID-19.

This is great for the program.  I hope the young man gets the support he needs at MU and can excel on the court.

The dark side of this is it means the offense won't change.  MU will have a ball dominant PG again, not enough ball movement, possibility of too much hero ball.
The bright side is that this guy has much better assist ratio than previous MU ball dominant PG's which, if the other guys make their shots, could be pretty to watch.  He's also bigger and longer than the last two ball dominant PG's.
