Navy ship / COVID
« on: April 06, 2020, 01:24:41 PM »
Wow.  This is just priceless:

https://taskandpurpose.com/news/navy-secretary-blasts-fired-aircraft-carrier-captain

My favorite:

"Crew of the Teddy Roosevelt, you are under no obligation to love your leadership, only respect it," he continued. "You are under no obligation to like your job, only to do it."

I'm surprised .. there hasn't been a mass resignation or something.

I do understand Modly's point of view regarding the communication of the potential readiness of a ship.

But his language is over the top.  And reprimanding the people who cheered him wasn't a smart move either.  And the China stuff is the gaslighting that we are going to hear a lot of over the next seven months.

And then there is this:

“If I could offer you a glimpse of the level of hatred and pure evil that has been thrown my way, my family's way over this decision, I would,” Modly said. “But it doesn't matter. It's not about me. "

OK...then don't make it about you.

Yes, this is a snarky comment.

Capt. Crozier would have been better off committing war crimes. He would have been hailed as a hero.

So let me get this straight, Modly relieved the Capt for using a communication method that he should have known would be leaked. He then addresses the sailors on board via the PA, a communication method which got leaked.......

Modly knew it would get leaked. He said nothing that he wasn’t prepared to get out.

If he didn’t want it to get out, he should resign.

After listening to the tape, if he did indeed want it to get out, he should resign.

Dude spent a lot of money to go get himself fired

@rabrowne75: CNN has confirmed that newly resigned acting Navy Secretary Modly's recent trip to Guam where he addressed the crew of the USS Theodore Roosevelt & slammed their former commanding officer, remarks that cost him his job, cost the @DeptofDefense ~$243,000, per a Navy estimate

Didn’t cost the Defense Dept. nothing.

It cost us taxpayers $243000

Nah, the Navy rents out their boats for parties and stuff.  They have their own revenue.

@DeaconBlues0: USS Theodore Roosevelt now has 550 cases of Cornavirus. They only had 95 cases when CAPT Crozier's pleas for help were ignored and he was relieved of command.

This is what happens when trump fires competent leaders and installs his lackeys.

Nope.  It's what happens when you have a 14 day incubation period.

This will actually be a pretty good test of how deadly this virus is to healthy individuals.

No. I was speaking of the way that Capt. Crozier was treated - not about the spread of the virus. That is bad leadership from lackeys who think their job  is to impress one man.

Nope.  The virus would have spread regardless if he would have been fired or not.

Eh ... 14 days is on the very far edge of the incubation period. The median is about 5 days, and  symptoms appear within 11 days for 98 percent of cases.
Certainly it's not unreasonable to suggest that had Crozier's requests been taken seriously from the onset (he wrote his letter March 30), there would be fewer ill sailors from the carrier's crew today.
How many less seems impossible to know, but we know that social distancing and similar measures help, so it seems almost certain.
