At some point most people will be when they have so much power and wealth at their fingertips. Even if he used to be a good dude, he's willing to do anything to not fumble the bag now. Generational wealth

Quote from: Shaka Shart on February 27, 2026, 06:58:53 PMConsidering a majority of LLM users seem to use it as expedited googling at this point (per Sam Altman's comments only 5% will pay), positioning yourself as the "ethical AI" feels like a shrewd business move

Scott Galloway pointed this out...being the White Hat focused on (relatively) safe and secure operations plays extremely well with corporate clients.
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

Nah, Altman has always been a dude that rubbed people the wrong way and gave off very slimy vibes

Some folks on the investing site I frequent are celebrating that the prices of their defense and oil stocks will be higher tomorrow.

Congrats to them. All it took was death and serious injuries to American soldiers to make it happen!

Good thing you avoid stock/investing Reddit.  The lunatics there (not even just the famous WallStBets) would celebrate deliriously if a United/Delta/American Dreamliner went down as long as they had puts.  People would look forward to natural disaster season (hurricanes/tornados) the same way gamblers get excited for March Madness or opening weekend NFL

Ugh.

That's not the way I roll.

The investing subreddit is a bunch of doomers, but mostly buy-and-hold doomers. Honestly they're mostly VOO and chill, and would get along okay in boglehead communities.

A lot of the other investing communities on Reddit are filled with meme stocks, options dumbassery, and crypto shilling, though.

Who'd have thought a war to destabilize the Middle East might have economic consequences?

QuoteMaritime traffic in the narrow waterway between Iran and Oman has ground to a halt since the US and Israel began attacking Iran on Feb 28. While there is no physical blockade in the strait, Iran has threatened to attack any vessels moving through it, and insurers have yanked their war-risk policies, leaving hundreds of tankers in limbo. An estimated 20% of world oil supply has been disrupted, my colleague Matt Egan writes. If that trend continues, the risks of a global recession compound. The war has already effectively wiped out the "spare capacity" that typically serves as a shock absorber in energy markets.

Right!? A political regime that showed little remorse for killing those that oppose them. Who would have guessed they would fight dirty when attacked unprovoked!?

Sorry, wrong thread.  But the investment implications remain.

Today was a bat-shyte crazy day for Mr. Market.

More to come, no doubt.
