You are 100% correct, CPU and PC are generic terms people use, but to tech savvy people are not the same, where the CPU (Central Processing Unit) is a core component of every computer, but not the computer itself.

Was just trying to have a little fun with Ska.

Yeah. After I wrote it, I thought I was probably taking it too literal.

NYC leads the way in employees returning to the office, with numbers back at pre-pandemic levels. Most major metro areas, however, are nowhere near getting back to those levels.

The cost of wholesale goods and services - where rising inflation tends to show up first - posted the biggest increase in July in three years, possibly heralding a sizable acceleration in price hikes tied to higher U.S. tariffs.

https://www.morningstar.com/news/marketwatch/20250814131/wholesale-prices-post-biggest-surge-in-three-years-ppi-shows-sign-of-tariff-related-inflation

The producer price index jumped 0.9% last month after no change in June, the government said Thursday.

The rate of wholesale inflation climb ed to 3.3% from 2.3%, a five-month high.

Another gauge known as the core rate that is seen as a more stable measure of wholesale inflation rose 0.6% in July.

The 12-month increase in the core rate moved up to 2.8% from 2.5%.

The wholesale report doesn't capture the cost of imports as well as the consumer price index, but the CPI also showed a sharper increase in July.

So far, manufacturers and other companies have eaten the cost of tariffs, but it is doubtful they will continue to keep doing so. Once those costs get passed down to consumers, the rate of inflation will jump markedly.

How this would affect the Fed's rate decisions is unclear. Most observers had been expecting a cut next month.

The stock market reacted negatively to the PPI news, though it has recovered most losses at the time I'm posting this. A very wait-and-see kinda day on the market.

I disagree with this part.  More manufacturers are or were  sitting on inventory and haven't gotten to the product with tariffs on it yet.  But it's been 4-5 months since "Liberation Day" whatever the heck that means and the inventory is gone and the tariffed items are finally breaking through.  I'd expect to see some skyrocketing the next several months.

My conversations the last week with customers all included "please send me the inventory in your USA warehouse that is pre-copper-tariff".

Yeah, "manufacturers and companies eating the tariffs" is BS. The tariffs will definitely show up in the prices we pay once they emerge from the pipeline.

NO.

That's a real good point. There have been companies eating the costs that have already materialized due to the tariffs, but probably a lot more situations like the one you describe.

And any companies who don't face tariffs will raise their prices as well because they can

So it all works out well for the consumer

From Axios:

New graduates are having an especially tough time landing a job right now: The share of unemployed Americans who are new to the workforce is at a 37-year high.

It's a sign of how reluctant companies have been to hire amid ongoing economic uncertainty over tariffs and policy.

13.4% of unemployed Americans in July were "new labor force entrants," those looking for jobs with no prior work experience, including new high school and college graduates. It's the highest number since 1988, according to the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond.

Hey, I remember trying to find a job fresh out of college in 1988.  Working hard 3 part time jobs with no benefits and living at home.  'Slacker' was coined around that time.

I think this is pretty much a classic case of what happens when hiring slows down. The first indiciations are when businesses don't hire people at the entry level roles.
