Tower, we both know solar has significant limitations. Same with wind. Some use, sure. But definitely not the end all. Remember the winter ice storms in Texas a few years back?
I do.  Wind and solar performed the best while the rest of the grid underperformed.

All of these things are well documented and provable. Some people just prefer to live in delusion these days and can't extract from what they want to be true vs actuality.

Back to your other point, Viper, I do not believe that solar can completely replace carbon yet.   But it is getting closer.   California frequently has days where all their energy needs are generated by renewables and nuclear.
I can easily envision where vehicle charging stations are powered by solar.   Where warehouses are powered by the solar on their roof.  Where rooftop solar is no more expensive than a furnace or central air.   Where Palisades becomes the template for more modern nuclear.    Where more subdivisions go the route of Babcock Ranch or Hunters Point.
   It is happening now.

It's crazy to me that people are willing to burn so much methane in their house without worrying if their vents are performing well. The "natural gas" rebrand was super effective.

Harris plans to take the corporate tax rate to 28%.Quadruple tax on stock buybacks. Increase the income tax rate at the top from 37% to 39%. No doubt you are in this bracket 🤣. Increase capital gains tax from 23% to +40%. Impose a first ever tax on unrealized capital gains. Crazy shiit. So yeah, when I said prior that we are toast if Harris wins, this is part of the reason why. Never mind an open border that is destroying AZ, CA, border towns in TX and soon a town near you.
I enjoy debate, Rico. Try bringing something here of substance sometime, or at least a semblance of thought.

My 401K and stocks are rolling.  Sadly, MS-13 has overrun my town and there's a taco truck on every street.  It's wild.  But the 401K and investments are great.  Same with the properties I own.  Then again, being Tyler Kolek's NBA agent is easy work

The border is closed, and Harris would sign the Republican-written, bipartisan border bill that the previous president scuttled for purely political reasons.

Those tax rates you quote would still be considerably lower than they were under almost every Republican president, including Reagan, who used to be the standard y'all quoted until you let your party be co-opted by the worst president ever. And I think you also know that the president does not have the power to raise or lower taxes - only Congress does.

If America again rejects a narcissist who is filled with hate and anger and cruelty, it will be nice to have a president who actually cares about American people and who believes in forming coalitions with our allies ... a president who doesn't plan to use the military against her own people ... a president who would never foment a violent coup attempt against her own country.

It also will be nice for the Constitution - not one easily manipulated dictator-wannabe who wants retribution against his perceived enemies - to continue being the law of the land.

It also will be nice for women to have control over their own reproductive systems.

It's exhausting listening to the non-stop lies your hero screams - lies that have real-life consequences. Innocent Haitians attacked, meteorologists threatened, etc. He truly is one of the worst human beings in the world, and that's why hundreds of notable Republicans are saying he is unfit for office.

But yes, a billionaire's taxes might go up under Harris if Congress agrees with her, you're right.

Now, can we get back to investing talk in the Investing Thread? My portfolio hit another all-time high today, and I'm hardly alone there. If an investor hasn't made money these last 4 years, that's on him or her.

1. That 28% corporate rate would be far lower than where it's been for most of American history, including the booms of the Reagan and Clinton years.
2. On stock buybacks, we're talking about 1% to 4% here. And contrary to chicken little predictions when the 1% buyback tax was imposed, not only did it not reduce buybacks, but they increased.
3. The proposed increase in capital gains tax would be from 20% to 25%, but only on those making $1 million or more annually. It doesn't affect 99.9% of us.
4. The proposed tax on unrealized gains - which is never going to pass Congress - would affect only those with $100 million or more in assets. Again, it doesn't effect 99.9+% of us. And no, that 0.0001% aren't going to pull their money out of the market and bury it in mason jars in the back yard.
5. There's not an open border. In fact, crossing are down to their lowest levels since 2020.
And please list some of these towns that have been "destroyed."

And don't forget that economists - not you or me or Viper or the dentists, but nonpartisan experts - have said that the previous president's economic plan would result in far worse inflation and budget deficits than Harris' economic plan would.

Ugh ... liberal media at it again,

The Wall Street Journal published a survey on Monday that reported that when it came to inflation, there was one definitive candidate whose economic policy plans would make it worse: former President Donald Trump.
Fifty economists responded to the survey, which took place from October 4-8, 2024. The quarterly survey was last conducted in July — before President Joe Biden dropped his bid for reelection and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris — and Trump's numbers pointed to higher inflation then as well.

no rebuttal required. I stand by what the Harris campaign has stated on economics...and my opinion that Bidenomics has been an economic disaster.  Trump will win, thankfully, but Biden/Harris have been and Harris/Walz would be free market killers. Regarding illegal immigration...you are right, 10m is made up. It's probably closer to double that. btw, I own a home in Tucson...going on the market in Q1. Visit Tucson, Yuma, Nogales, Douglas, Sierra Vista...and quite frankly, on up the I-10 to Phx. and tell me illegal immigration isn't a disaster upon which this country may not recover if the border isn't closed and LEGAL immigration restored. What country of law & order allows ILLEGAL migration and the human trafficking, sex trafficking, drug trafficking, chaos, anarchy, death and destruction that comes with it? Why does Biden/Harris allow this? To change demographics, of course. Fortunately, America...other than the few of you on here...are waking up. 80+m of us have had enough of Laken Riley-type scenarios. btw, will be asking $700k for the house.
