It's painfully obvious that you have no idea what I'm talking about. And it's funny.

You got me, Fluff. Your point went over my head. Brilliant work on your part.

It's actually pretty easy. But thanks.

It appears that Monday's sell-off was a one day reaction to the first poor jobs report in two years.    Every now and then, those days happen.   Onward and upward.

Yes.

But why are you talking about investing in this thread? Jeesh!

Not that it matters long term but do you think the market will be higher or lower than today on Election Day?

tower912

August and September are traditionally down months for the market.   It is entirely possible that those trends will continue.  However, what would normally be considered relatively normal market behavior will be blown monumentally out of proportion for political hay.

Anybody buy or sell any stock today?

I didn't. I put in limit orders on AMZN, GOOGL and a few others, but none hit. Tomorrow's another day!

Bought a little S&P (VOO) yesterday, and some fractional brk/b today (IRA account with a few dollars of dividends to spend).  I always do market orders.  Conviction 😋

I don't think anything is on sale yet.

And with the Fed's guess at future GDP, I don't think there will be rate cuts this year, which might impact market prices once the Street comes to that same realization. https://www.atlantafed.org/cqer/research/gdpnow

Damn economy, keeps humming along 🎉

I'd also point out debt as a percentage of income

Despite the hysteria that would make some think the market was closing up shop, the S&P 500 is up 10% so far this year. A double-digit gain over 8 months - yes, a true disaster!

Oh, and futures are up another 1% this morning.

What does today mean?
Always going to be snap back rallies in mist of correction. Professional Traders make living off these through use algorithms.

My focus is for the most part long term.

Or, the correction was just some profit-taking in the midst of a long, ongoing bull market.

Actually, I think the final line "Buckle up, and don't panic" is the real take away.

That's disappointing that Monday was an existential commentary on the future of man and all we get is 'snap-back' on Tue.

Stocks up in early trading as initial jobless claims came in lower than expected.

https://seekingalpha.com/news/4136915-sp500-nasdaq-dow-jones-outlook-stock-market

This continues the recent trend of Mr. Market actually liking good news; before that, the trend was that Mr. Market preferred "bad" news because it meant the Fed was more likely to cut rates. But now rate cuts have already been priced in - indeed, some economists think the Fed waited too long to cut.

My take is that what we've seen the last week is mostly a correction.  It amazes me that there are still people on TV predicting stock prices day to day.

I agree it has been a correction, the kind of event that takes place numerous times during most cycles.

See when I read stuff like this, it leads me to believe that the markets in the short-term are way too much swayed by factors that don't have a lot to do with the long term health of the economy. Yen carry trades have nothing to do with 99% of average Americans.
