I get that, too.    My 11 yob has an near encyclopedic knowledge of 80's stuff and will bust out a lyric anytime somebody says something that closely approximates said lyric.    Along with Irish drinking songs.      Will debate the relative merits of Van Halen with David Lee Roth vs Sammy Hagar.    Ponders why he can't sing like the guy from AC/DC.  (whisky and cigarettes, young man, whisky and cigarettes), dreams of hitting that impossible note at the end of 'Take on Me'....... yeah, I am a crap father.

I thankfully took my kids to see 21 Pilots last year.  A great show.

80's music is totally in with kids.  They don't get upset when I have 80's on 8 on XM on.

On the plus side, the kid can sing almost the entire Hamilton soundtrack and loves U2s 'Songs of Experience'.

Ditto for my kids!
Songs of Expierience it's one of U2's best.

Angel Olsen, Arcade Fire, Big Thief, FJM, Freddie Gibbs, MMJ (It Still Moves over Circuital), Parquet Courts (1st 2 albums too), Real Estate (Days), Surfer Blood, and Tame Impala (1st 2 albums too) were oversights on my part

Hopefully the 1/25 show in Houston or at least something other than 1/23 in Austin (game night vs. DePaul!).

Last month marked the 20th anniversary of the first Atmosphere show I ever ** THREW **. Dang, time flies.

Based on your taste, you should definitely check out Courtney Barnett. New-ish artist with a rad 90's-indie sound (reminds me of Malkmus' guitar work with Pavement). Try The Double EP record and go from there.

Love her, saw her over the summer at Pitchfork Festival. Put on a great performance.

I like Courtney and thought i'd love the stuff with Kurt Vile but i'm having a tough time getting into it.  Is it just me or is this a better match in theory than in practice?  i felt the same way about LCD's American Dream, revisited it a month ago and i clearly was missing it the first couple of run throughs so maybe it just needs to be revisited.

Agree, I think they're both better on their own. In regards to LCD, American Dream is definitely the weakest album compared to This is Happening and Sound of Silver. Has a few great songs on it but nothing to write home about in my opinion.

That was pretty dope. I've been wanting to see Slug and Ant forever but my schedule just never lined up well. Going to the Houston show.

I'm with you. Her solo stuff is way better. I think the problem is the CB/KV record is too mellow for two folks who can rawk.

Glad you're going to check out a show. I was close friends with Slug when they were just getting started - the success is amazing.

I think that night he was at my apartment over on Prospect and Brady before the radio show and I had, uhh, a VHS tape of some sort playing on the TV. IIRC he was likely going to stay overnight, but plans changed during that day before the show.. so it was a freestyle about how he wasn't sleeping over anymore, so he wouldn't be able to peep the videos after the show.. a true freestyle, hey.
Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.

memorized the words to “hot rod Lincoln “ when I was a teenie, fun song to sing back in the day.  All the girls would get a tingle running up their leg hearing the cadence of what was probably one of the first “rap type” songs. If you could do this, you were beyond cool man!!🕺🏾🤷🏼‍♂️🙉

My pappy said "Son, you're gonna drive me to drinkin',
If you don't stop drivin' that Hot Rod Lincoln. "

Have you heard the story of the hot rod race,
Where the Fords 'n' Lincolns were settin' the pace?
That story is true, I'm here to say,
That I was drivin' that Model-A.

It's got a Lincoln motor and it's really souped up,
That Model-A body makes it look like a pup.
It's got eight cylinders and uses 'em all,
Got overdrive that just won't stall.

With a four-barrel carb and a dual exhaust,
With 4-11 gears you can really get lost.
Got safety tubes but I ain't scared,
The brakes are good, tires fair.

Pulled outta San Pedro late one night,
The moon 'n' the stars was shinin' bright.
We was drivin' up Grapevine hill,
Passin' cars like they was standin' still.

All of a sudden in the wink of an eye,
Cadillac sedan passed us by.
I said "Boys that's the mark for me,"
By then the tailight was all you could see.

Now the fellas ribbed me for bein' behind,
So I thought I'd make the Lincoln unwind.
Took my foot off the gas'n'man alive,
I shoved it on down into overdrive.

Wound it up to a hunderd an' ten,
My speedometer said that I hit top end.
My foot was glued like lead to the floor,
That's all there is an' there ain't no more.

Now the boys all thought I'd lost my sense,
Them telephone poles looked like a picket fence.
They said "slow down, I see spots,"
The lines on the road just looked like dots.

Took a corner'n'side-swiped a truck,
Crossed my fingers just for luck.
My fenders was clickin' the guardrail posts,
The guy beside me was white as a ghost.

Smoke was comin' from outta the back,
When started t' gain on that Cacillac.
Knew I could catch him, I thought I could pass,
Don'tcha by then we'd be low on gas.

We had flames comin' from outta the side,
You could feel the tension, man whatta ride.
I said "look out boys, I got a license to fly,"
And that Caddy pulled over and let us by.

Now all of a sudden she started knockin'
Down in the dip she started to rockin'
And I looked in the mirror, a red light was blinkin',
The cops was after my hot rod Lincoln.

They arrested me 'n' they put me in jail,
'n they called my pappy to throw my bail,
'n he said "son you're gonna drive me ta drinkin'
If you don't stop drivin' that hot rod Lincoln.

Bump. What are we listening to in 2019?

I tried getting tickets to the Lumineers show at the Pabst right when they went on sale but the site would put me in the queue and then crash and a couple minutes later it said all the tickets were sold out. Think that will be a great show in a smaller venue but heard last time they scheduled them at the Pabst they moved it to the Marcus Amphitheater due to ticket demand.
