My first year at MU Simon and Garfunkel appeared in the old gym. They sat on the edge of the stage the whole show.

I love both EP's they dropped earlier this year and the Street of Dreams song that will be on the new album dropping in November.
I was in Mexico City for work when they were filming the video in May unfortunately I learned about it the day after filming otherwise I would have found an excuse...........

Silencio is a 2:35 rocker, too.

Looking forward to hearing the duet with Dolly.   Perhaps the last thing she recorded.

I just read the tracks list and it has the feel like The Wanderer with Johnny Cash which may be the last thing he recorded too.

New Brandon Flowers album "Thrasher" is absolutely fantastic. Been out for a month or so, but I finally got around to listening to it properly, beyond just a few singles.  I'll consume anything Brandon Flowers produces with excitement, even though this genre isn't really my cup of tea.  Heavily influenced by old school country and Americana, cause he wanted to make an album of his dad's preferred kind of music, which is pretty amazing.  He's just such a force of nature as a songwriter and composer that naturally it's well done.

It also reminded me of my brief Brandon Flowers encounter.... My buddy was a brand manager at Beam back in the early 2010s, specifically working on the "Olds" family of Whiskey...Old Crow, Old Forester, etc... While looking into endorsements and partnerships, he was directed and introduced to Ronnie Vanucci, drummer for the Killers, who was a huge Whiskey guy and loved the heritage of those lower brands.  They were in final negotiation stages as the Battle Born tour came through Chicago. My buddy went to the concert at UIC with his wife, as Ronnie's guest, and they had dinner with Ronnie and Mark (Killer's bassist) after.  I had a prior obligation that conflicted with the concert (I remember being pissed I'd miss the concert even before this development) but was invited to meet them all for drinks after at a cool cocktail bar in River North.

I'm fan-ing out at this point cause while I didn't expect Brandon Flowers to be there, there was still a chance.  He'd been my musical man crush for a decade at that point and I was pretty fascinated by him artistically, even before he's gotten even more impressive and ambitious in the last decade.  Of course, he indeed wasn't there because besides being sober at that point, Ronnie told Brandon had dinner with a friend and then went back to the hotel to call his wife and little kids.  Top class dude.

Anyways, Ronnie is a blast and a great story teller so we had a ton of fun.  If Brandon had been there, I probably would have ended up like Chris Farley interviewing McCartney. Even though Mr Brightside had a profound impact on my late teen years, I'm sure they'd already heard enough about that for ages, but I told Ronnie that "I Can't Stay" off Day and Age was actually my favorite Killers song (still is to the day, at least for vocal melody) and I'd never heard anyone share that thought.  He kind of lit up and goes "oh hell yea, that was our island vibe" and pantomimed a hula. Then, decently buzzed at this point he goes "wait, gotta tell him, he loves some deep cut appreciation".  Then proceeds to FT Brandon and the following 30 second convo I'll never forget verbatim for the rest of my life

Brandon: "what's up man?
Ronnie: "Met someone tonight who thinks I Can't Stay is the peak, when's the last time we played that?"
B: (chuckles) "Nice man, gosh idk, like 2-3 years?
R: "thought so..."
B: "...yea you used to call it Brandon's hula girl song, you unnatural carnal knowledgeing idiot"
R: (laughing hard, flashes the phone screen towards us) "see, told you, island vibes!"
B: "oh gosh, mixed crowd. I'm sorry guys that was crude! Good night folks" (hangs up)

Absolute perfection of an interaction.  Couldn't love them anymore and hope they have all the success in the world beyond the atmospheric superstardom they already have.

But yea, Thrasher is excellent and it made me go back and listen to Desired Effect, his last solo album, which still absolutely crushes

One of my favorite bands, Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers, is touring the Midwest and will soon be in a city near you:

Omaha (10/9); St. Paul (10/10); Des Moines (10/11); Cleveland (10/13); Columbus (10/14); Detroit (10/15); Kalamazoo (10/16); Chicago (10/17); Milwaukee (10/18).

Playing Fitzgerald's in Chicago (Berwyn) and Shank Hall in Milwaukee. I've seen them in both venues, and the shows were excellent.

The band's sound is kind of Tom Petty-ish, with occasionally country-rock bent. Been listening to Roger for decades, including with his first band, the Refreshments. Just about everyone I've recommended him to has enjoyed the experience.

Thankfully, they're also coming to Seattle next month, and we'll be there!

This week will see the god Rakim at a jazz club (~250 ppl). Have certainly seen him before, but not in this type of setting with live instrumentation.

PS - yesterday marked the 28th anniversary of the first concert I ever threw — Atmosphere at the Y-Not II in Milwaukee.
