While the growing trend is cutting the cord, today I signed up for the cord after DirecTV since 1997 (sorry chicos). Recent price increases, my 25 Mbps internet was too much $ and my D-i-L recently quit AY&T and lost the employee discount so our cell costs doubled.

Bundling everything with Spectrum's new 3 year price locks and I'm already saving $40/month and internet will be 500 vs the 25 Mbps

25 Mbps? Bruh was livin in the 90s

Funny thing is that has always been sufficient for the 2 of us even for occasionally streaming TV. Now my BT traffic will fly compared to previously.

I frequent lodging where the wi-fi is limited to 8/8 up/down per client.

Turns out that's totally fine.

25 Mbps is overkill!

Yeah, people are addicted to "speed" numbers, but even 15Mbps (reliable) can do 3 HD streams easy.  For a few years I did the comcast 40Mbps plan for $25/month -  which was reliable and generally more than I could ever use.

That said...sometimes it's nice to have some extra speed.

I would take a solid 25/25 fiber connection over a 500 tier cable service.

25 Mbps of low latency fiber >>> 500 Mbps of coax for 99% of your needs.

Has anyone here used ytubetv overseas?

With the latest YTTV price increase, I may be looking for other options next hoops season (especially since we now apparently also need Peacock, Max, and ESPN+...).

Cord cutting is looking like it's become worse then cable as this point.

The start of this thread had so much hope. Playstation vue for 30 dollars.

I wonder if anyone has considered bundling all the streaming stuff together into one package that we could purchase to save money?

An idea like this would be great. Someone should try it.

Maybe also bundle it with internet? And maybe your cell phone?

There really are no cheaper options that are going to allow you to keep everything you traditionally had. YTTV is still cheaper than the traditional cable option.

Is it though?

However, the lack of "contact" will probably make it worth it regardless (since I cancel over the summer)

Honestly, I'm paying $90 for 1gig internet. Now I'm paying $92(4k+unlim upgrade) for YTTV. I'm thinking I can get a spectrum bundle for cheaper now.

You might on a temporary price and you want a pretty basic bundle.

Once March Madness is over, I'm canceling YouTubeTV.

It's not worth $1000/year.  We'll manage.  Maybe just subscribe seasonally.

That's what I do. Labor Day - Final 4.  That's all I care about.

For sure!  Even when it was "value priced"  that's what I did.  Just don't use the TV much in the summer.

My TDS bill is about $200 for TV and internet.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

Streaming is only cheaper when you only stream what you need when you need it. We keep disney all year round for the kiddos and prime video because it's only a few bucks a month since we pay for prime membership anyway. Between those two we have more options than we will ever need. YTTV for basketball season. Then cycle through all the other streaming services one at a time every few months. Gives all our shows time to come out with new seasons and only pay for services were actively watching at the time.

This.  Cable will offer you a low price for a year which will then jump significantly.

warriorchick

I canceled our Spectrum cable last year and went to YTTV (I was also able to cancel cable service in our home in Las Vegas because I can use YTTV in both places).  When I asked them how much my internet service would be without the cable, they quoted me $75 per month, but I could get the same service plus wireless phone service for $55 per month, so that's what I did.

They also never canceled my HBO Max service that was tied to my cable TV subscription.  Right now, I am getting internet, wireless phone, and HBO Max for $55 per month.
Have some patience, FFS.
