Masters 2018
« on: April 04, 2018, 08:26:42 PM »
This is shaping up to be a very good masters.Tiger of course is back in form. Rory coming off a big win at Arnold Palmer tournament. Spieth finished second at Houston Open. Phil got a win earlier this year. Dustin Johnson. Jason Day, Justin Thomas even Sergio looking to defend.

If Tiger wins could be one of the greatest comebacks. Excellent research report in the NY Post on the depths from which he rose.

Winning is overrated. The only time it is really important is in surgery and war.

i like to play me a little draft kings gold fantasy-with the exception of spieth, patrick reed, and JT, i had to play mostly "old codgers"  lefty, zack, tiger, bernhard, bam-bam, charlie, dufner and koootch.  gotta respect your elders-they know this course and the pressures that follow

I enjoy playing a little golf on draft kings as well. Might have gotten carried away this week. Going to be a fun, fun weekend.

i was playing about 5 or 6 different contests/rosters($20 total wagered) one weekend.  i come home from a saturday round of golf of my own, check the standings and i am in 1 st place in 3 of the contests.  if that's not crazy enough, these were the big ones with like a couple hundred thousand participants each and i'm up a total of $80,000.  no, i didn't go out and buy a new car or retire from work...laid down for a little lazy saturday afternoon nap, woke up to find myself up about $15, ended up winning like a total of $25...needless to say, i didn't have to file any amended tax forms-but had a lot of fun-good luck on ya goose

Go, Phil.   Though I think I would prefer, if he were to win one major this year, it happen at Shinnecock so he can finish the career slam.   Go, Matt Parziale.

Going to be awesome to watch. For my money, I like Justin Thomas - think he's got the most consistency of anyone in the game right now. Looking a little further down the odds board, I like Matsuyama at 30/1 and Oosthuizen at 60/1.

With the strength and depth of this field, picking a winner is a crapshoot.  However, I like Bubba's chances.  He has won two of his last three outings. His success at Augusta is due to his ability to play the high fade off the tee required on the many right-to-left holes, #13 in particular.

Great story on being up the $80k. I went all in this week and have 12 lineups, all including Tiger. I always do the big ones and hoping for Tiger historic victory. Good luck on your plays!!

This is the 10th anniversary of the one and only Masters I went to.

It was one of the worst, with Trevor Immelman winning and no Sunday drama.

But the weather was perfect and the grounds were in spectacular shape. Augusta National remains one of only two places that actually exceeded my very high expectations; the Grand Canyon is the other.

As for this year, I like Burrow's Justin Thomas pick. It would be great if Tiger and/or Phil can give some Sunday thrills.

Regardless, this will be the 10th straight year that I will root for anything better than 2008!

So I guess Sergio won't be successful at defending his title this year...

I almost never get the chance to say this in regards to golf, but even I could have made 13 on a 530 yard hole. Just use the hybrid off the tee, get onto the green in six, and six putt for a solid 12.

Interested to hear the commentator indicate that most golfers usually start with 6 balls.

I texted my son about Sergio's 13. He said: "Even you can beat that." And I responded:

"Yeah, I've had a few 14s!"

Seriously, one of the reasons I love golf is that I could beat the best player in the entire world on a hole or two, even if he tried his hardest. If LeBron tried his hardest, I could never stop him from scoring or score against him, but I could beat Dustin Johnson on a hole or two.

The funny thing (if you're a sadist) about Sergio's hole is that all the shots that he hit into the drink actually landed on the middle of the green and rolled back.  I wouldn't have that problem because I have no back spin.  But after I rolled it 15 yards past the green on the initial approach, I'd almost certainly hit the first one into the water trying to go back the other way.  Fortunately, I think I'd then be able to take my drop between the water and the green.  With only one in the water, I'd like to think I could get a 13.

Finau popping his dislocated ankle back into place and then shooting 68 the next day has to be one of the coolest stories I have heard in a while.

Anyone catch Jack Nicklaus' grandson hitting a hole in one?

A good MU friend and frequent scoop lurker (coward) was in the front row of the gallery.  I always hated him!

I was above the green looking down at it as it happened.  Phenomenal.

First time to Augusta.  It looks like every blade of grass has been painted.  Amazing place.

Absolutely.  Everything except the pimento cheese sandwich that is.  Not a fan.

I am a fan, and I'm an even bigger fan of the food prices. I was stunned by how low they were.
