Why? You miss criminals on our team and the inevitable sanctions that were coming had he stayed?
Wow.  "Criminals" and "inevitable sanctions."  What, no alien invasion?

I never would have imagined that VT would be in better shape in year four. VT had an atrocious mens program when Buzz was hired. They're looking at 3 consecutive postseason appearances. We will have only sniffed once in four years.

Frustrating times for sure.
I bought Buzz's schtick as well, but I think you are forgetting his miserable last year here.

LOL, Chico. Guess I missed the story about V Tech's sanctions.

Great win for Buzz Williams

FTsmatta   Virginia's 93% FT shooter misses 2nd of a 1 and 1.  Then fouled again misses first of a 1 and 1.  Buzz be dancing.

But, no, #FTsNoMatta & eFG% reigns supreme

Yall really thought wojo was better then buzz? Lol. Could have had howeland....

GGGG

Howland?   That wouldn't have worked either.  His record at MSU is worse than Wojo's, in a tougher conference, with the same benefit of recruiting an in-state 5 star prospect.

Pakuni

Pfft.
Wojo didn't even need overtime to beat the #1 team in country, and y'all going on and on about beating #2?

I am always happy to see our former coaches do well. I believe it is always good to have Marquette diaspora do good things.  Happy for Buzz and hope he makes it far into the tournament.

Buzz was a great coach for us. The last year he was deflated and his time with us had come to and end.  Obviously the way he left sucked and did not reflect well on his character. But what do you expect from a college basketball coach?

I see you only have 40 posts, so I feel compelled to warn you that this rationality and stability is not welcome here.

Buzz and VPI beat Duke.  The team is having another solid year.

He called out the students to "stop cussin" over the mic towards the end of the game.  It's already all over the media

WarriorDad

Smart play by Coach Williams to admonish the students with the mic last night. That will play well with the fans in that part of the country.  Big win.  Lock city for them.

We have more Q1 wins than Duke this year.  They aren't as good as their RPI says.  Most of their "good" Q2 wins are against weak teams:  Texas, Florida, Indiana, Boston College are all Q2 wins for them.

Their only really impressive win is:  Michigan St.  Their other impressive win was Clemson, who has only 2 wins against Q1 opponents (also vastly over-rated).

It is funny that VPI is considered a lock with an RPI around 50, and going 5-5 in Q1, (9-8 in Q1/Q2, 9 of their wins in Q4) SOS=62; non-conference SOS 324, but we are considered off the bubble by some having gone 7-11 against Q1/Q2, only 6 wins in Q4, and a SOS=25; non-conference SOS=126.  We beat Creighton, and replace Purdue/Wichita St./Georgia with the crap teams VPI played in Q4, and we are looking nearly identical to them on paper.

VPI is a lock because they have wins over (Pomeroy) #1 (Virginia - on the road), #3 (Duke), #8 (N Carolina), #18 (Clemson), #28 (Notre Dame - on the road) and #39 (NC State). By contrast, our 6 best wins are over #27 Creighton, 2 over #32 Seton Hall, #72 Providence, #76 St John's and #97 Georgetown. And their record (21-9 v 17-13) is much better. They lost to woeful St Louis in November. We lost to woeful DePaul last week. They're rated 20+ slot higher in Pomeroy. In short, they're just way better than us.

In early November. Buzz's teams generally peaked in March - around tournament time. I know you believe November is as important as March in college basketball, but you're a minority of one on that.

Buzz is gone Lennys.  He's done a decent job at Va Tech, but hardly stellar.  Time to let him go.

It was a joke.  Isn't the running joke that came up in the last few weeks that we are Saint Louis like?

I don't think the Hokies would kick our ass, they would probably beat us due to their experience and defense, but it was only a joke.

EdIt:  In the thread in the other side of the board there is a link to CBS and how the committee view things.  Your comment above caught resurfaced when I read the article.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/bracketology-what-actually-is-on-an-ncaa-tournament-resume-may-surprise-you/

This is what it says

"Record in last X-number of games: A long time ago, the committee used to consider how a team finished the season and included a team's record in its most recent 12 games. Before that, it was 10 games. However, that was removed over a decade ago when the committee decided that it was necessary to take a more holistic approach to the season. Now, games in November mean just as much as games in March."

Why is that proof?  Typically those are people with years of college basketball and athletics experience.  What is magical about a game played 9 games ago vs 18 games ago?  Each game is random to a degree anyway.  You can play the same team 10 straight games and not have the same 10 outcomes, so why should a win or loss in March be treated differently?  The only argument for is how a team is playing in time proximity to the tournament, but that doesn't factor in that even very good teams can have an off night in early March.  By overstating how teams are doing down the stretch, they reward decent team for doing better at the end, while penalizing a good team that has been consistent through the year but may have a tough closing schedule or stubbed their toe in a given game.  I'm glad they removed the qualifier.

In theory, recent games do mean more. On the team sheets, rankings of a predictive model are used, and that model includes a recency bias.
