I've long since lost count of the number of times I've watched movies with my kids that just didn't live up to my recollection and consequently fell flat with my kids. The most disappointing example was Fletch.

I will die on the "Chevy Chase simply is not funny" hill.

Never has been (a few scenes in Caddyshack and Vacation aside).  Wasn't funny on SNL, and 90% of his movies are trash.

Sadly, I could not watch Community bc of him.

Etsy has a lot or cool Baby Yoda stuff, if you can live without it being official.

I ordered some Baby Yoda stuff on Zazzle for one of the kids and one of the items got rejected because "it wasn't official."

Hard to believe Disney missed out on the baby Yoda merch for this Christmas.    A rare miscalculation.    The profits from that alone probably would have paid for ESPN8, the Ocho.

I read that they did indeed do this on purpose, as to not spoil this big reveal, because those toys would've leaked months ago.  They calculated it could have hurt the show (and ultimately Disney+ subscriptions) and people would be BIG MAD about a baby yoda.

Found an interesting show on Netflix recently about toys from the 80s The Toys that Made Us, and they have an episode on original Star Wars toys that is really interesting.  I didn't realize the first action figures came out 10 months AFTER Episode IV.

I did know that about about the Ep IV toy line.....but that was accidental versus intentional. GL tried to negotiate additional points on the box office and Fox wouldn't budge so he negotiated ownership of the merch rights which they gave him but because the agreement came so close to the release he didn't get a deal with Kenner until just before the opening. Another example of where GL had a horse shoe up his butt that paid off for him.

I hadn't thought about the Baby Yoda merch being deliberately withheld which actually makes a TON of sense from Disney. It absolutely would have leaked, not sure it would have impacted subscriptions but it is telling that Disney think a Baby Yoda leak out of context would have turned the fan community further against them. Shows me that they don't actually understand the fan community nor the basis of some of the revolts to date. It turns out that if you make true Star Wars content, that the Star Wars people eat it up because I think it's safe to say that The Mandalorian is universally revered at this point.

Then you missed Seasons 5 and 6 for nothing.  At least go back and watch the cold open of "G.I. Jeff"... I can assure you there's no Chevy Chase, and the payoff is comedic genius on a level rarely seen... you could watch the payoff 100 times and still laugh hysterically every time (provided you ever watched Saturday morning TV in the 80's).

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

It feels weird to me that they wouldn't go through elaborate lengths to keep this a secret AND have some apparatus for getting this in people's hands by Xmas. I'm sure they're going to pull in A LOT of money regardless, but still feels like a missed opportunity

The toy companies are always the leaks, too many involved there. Makes total sense if they had to keep it a secret.

I got the Irishman in yesterday. It was good, wasn't great. Pesci was incredible, Pacino and Deniro, not the best.

Is the Disney store licensed vs wholly owned and operated by Disney? That was more the direction I was thinking. Still risk of leaks, certainly, but much easier to control.

I think China manufacturing is the leaks when it comes to this.

Bingo.  Chinese mfg's couldn't keep their mouths shut if you paid them... because a) NDA's are a joke in China, but more importantly, b) there's always someone willing to pay more.

Pesci was incredible.  I also thought Ray Romano should do more dramatic acting.

I started watching Jack Ryan on Prime.
5 episodes through Season 1 and it is very intense and fast paced.

I expected a step backwards in Season 2, but the quality is still there.

I disagree. While they don't fully understand the community, I do think Mandalorian would've been negatively affected by that leak and fans would've turned against it before it even came out. The same way they did with Ewoks and Jar Jar.

The overly cute stuff strikes a negative chord with the fans that revere the grittier, classic movies. While Baby Yoda worked, it worked because they introduced him organically. If we would've had 4 months of leaks, a large segment of the fanbase would've flamed Mandalorian before it arrived. Instead of breaking download records, it would be fighting to earn enough of a niche audience to convince the diehards to come back.

I agree with this.

If Baby Yoda was a thing before the Mando launch, it would have been skewered. They would've been wrong, but nonetheless.

After one viewing- somewhere between Casino and the classics: mean streets, Good Fellows, Raging Bull, etc. Didn't like the anti-aging stuff.  Liked the way Scorsese used the history of the mob (and the myth of the mob) to illustrate his view of the trajectory of American society from World War 11.
Loved Bobby Cannavale and  Stephen Graham.

Wise choice. Often overlooked when discussing iconic HBO shows, but many critics consider it a top-5 show all-time for the network.

Acting outstanding across the board. I especially love Lauren Ambrose as Claire -- perfect portrayal of a late-teens girl. She has since gone on to be a Tony nominated Broadway star.
