Airline tickets were booked for the first thing smoking MKE --> LGA for that Saturday AM.  Will never forget Markus' hero ball pull up while Sam was wide open.  Wojo's inability to reel in Markus and operate a team cost my son and I a great weekend in NYC but more importanly cost MU a run at the Final Four.  The pieces were in place.  Never forget.
your great time in NYC determined by a bunch of 18-21 yr old basketball players. Really? I'll never forget Markus was The Man that put butts in the seats and gave MU some national publicity. Hausers? Not so much. Never forget.

2003 Rankings by Week

1/20     20th
1/27     18th
2/3     15th
2/10     11th
2/17     11th
2/24   10th

2019 Rankings by Week

1/21    12th
1/28    10th
2/4    10th
2/11    10th
2/18    10th
2/25  11th

They weren't as good as their rankings.  However, had the roster stayed together, a Final 4 a year later would not have been a shock.  I doubt the staff could have navigated March without losing a game, though.

Celtic plans for Sam.

Good. Always liked Sam. During has time at Marquette, I thought he had a shot at an NBA career, and as his one season at Virginia progressed I was sure enough about it to make a bet to that effect with former Scoop sensation Crash.

Sam is a solid fundamental player who is elite at a skill valued by every NBA team. He's a better all-around player than Novak was, and he could hang around for 10 years like Novak did.

Sam was put in an impossible situation by his baby bro, who has gone on to greatness under a HoF coach.

I love how you are looking at the rankings of our final four team right after back to back loses to East Carolina and Dayton that happened at the start of the calendar.

In 2019, all of those overtime and small margin wins vs Creighton, Seton Hall, Xavier, Georgetown really screamed final four. What was your favorite loss that year, was it losing by 23 to a bad Indiana team, Losing by 20 to St. Johns, or Georgetown on Senior day? I really liked Makus Howard's Guard cover being Joseph Cartouny.

Our 2019 KP rating was never above 24. Shaka Smarts team peaked at 23 last year before the UCONN game. It looks like Sam Hauser is going to be the only NBA talent on that team that lasts over 3 years in the league. Though im cheering for Jamal.

That 2019 hardly ended up being better than the 2017 team.

I booked flights for NYC the Saturday afternoon when we won at Providence to 23-4, 12-2 in conference.  We went 1-6 the rest of the way.

Re: 2003, I started the comp after we won 4 in a row to go 4-1 in conf and 12-3 overall.  I don't think I was cherry picking.  2019 had Indiana, 2003 had ND (and Dayton, and ECU). Losses happen.

Markus does not receive qualifying offer . Is now an unrestricted free agent . Will be interesting to see who picks him up.

Will be interesting if anyone picks him up. Best of luck to him, uphill NBA battle now.

Now we know why he was not on Denver's Summer League roster.

I don't know how big a Mexican fan base Juan has, but an incredible story continues.
Did not think he would be signed and very happy for him. Will be curious to see details of contract.

Its big and growing.  He's becoming the face of Mexican basketball.

As for Markus, I keep thinking Shane Larkin for him.  Another undersized scorefirst PG.  Minimal NBA success, but has become a superstar for Andalou Efes, who are basically the best team in Europe the last few years.  If he doesn't latch on, and he has a good agent, I'd be shocked if he doesn't end up in Spain, Turkey, or one of the top 2-3 French teams.

Another ball of energy

Justin Lewis, a 6-foot-7 forward out of Marquette, signed a two-way contract with the Bulls immediately after going undrafted last week. His spirit and enthusiasm have been likened to Terry's.

"I'm excited about Justin Lewis," Bryant said. "That man comes with a lot of energy every day."

Bryant praised Lewis' versatility, saying he can guard almost every position and added he's excited to see what he'll do in Las Vegas.

"He's very versatile," Bryant said. "I think we can put him in a lot of different spots. But the dude comes with a smile, he's always in the gym. I probably had to kick him out of the gym, I forget what night it was, I said, 'Hey, we have a long week and we haven't started playing games.' He's just in here and his energy is very infectious, almost like D.T."
