Oso is 2-2, 5 points, 1-1 at the FT line, 1 assist in the 1st half against the Lakers on TNT. Watching him guard LeBron on switches is awesome.

Also guarded Jaxon Hayes primarily. Shaka gotta be smiling watching that.

Sam Vecenie has Kam Jones at 20 and Chase Ross at 52 on his NBA Big Board.

This makes a lot of sense. Kam's demonstrating legit PG skills and better defense to go a long with his scoring prowess. As a SG, he wouldn't stand out but as a big PG or combo G off the bench he has much more appeal.

Chase has improved a lot this year, too. His defense was always good, but it's taken a noticeable leap this year. Chase has also improved his ball handling, passing, and shooting to the point where he looks like a legitimate guard, not just an athlete. I don't think Chase's draft stock has peaked yet. With a strong year, he could be an early entry candidate. At the very least, he would be very much on the NBA radar as a senior next year.

MUfan12

The last piece for Chase is being able to use his athleticism to get to the rim more effectively. He's still slower than he should be on the dribble drive.

Unfortunately for us I think Chase may be in more of a position to leave early than Kam was. Kam had reasons to come back and show he could run a team, Chase will never do that.

His best chance may be now. I'll worry about that later though and enjoy him now!

Vecenie has always been super bullish on Marquette guys in the Shaka era.  Nice to see that continuing.

I'm not so sure.  Next year would be Chase's chance to be "the guy."  Right now, he's always going to be seen as the Robin to Kam's Batman.

That's only important for him if he's to become an NBA starter.  As a bench player it's less important.

Chase can do a lot of the stuff NBA teams want role players to do.  I can easily see Chase in a role similar to Pat Connaughton.

I was going to say the same thing. But an even more important factor is money.  If Chase becomes a top 40 pick, it makes sense to leave. Otherwise things get a bit more fuzzy.

Vecenie on Kam:

Marquette's Kam Jones has been outstanding so far, and he's about as efficient a scoring guard as you'll find. His passing also has continued to make strides since he took over as Marquette's primary playmaker after Tyler Kolek went out late last year with an injury. Any of those four seem like the best bet right now.

And on Chase:

Marquette wing Chase Ross has been a demon on defense, as disruptive as I've seen any player this season.

FWIW, Vecenie's board lists both at 6-5.

Also, he says that being in the top 30 or top 60 doesn't necessarily mean he thinks a team will draft the player because of a variety of factors.

Tyler COLEk

I think if Kam continues to produce this efficiently as a playmaker through conference play he'll flirt with the lottery. The only real knock is athleticism and that concern is significantly mitigated if he can play point. His defensive improvement has probably helped him address that too.

I watched TKO get in at garbage time and miss two 3's. One, an air ball. Ouch.

The real knock on him is his age. Guys that old are rarely lottery picks (see Dalton Knecht). He may well be good enough to be a lottery pick, but I would be very surprised if it happened.
