Heh, not quite. You haven't seen my twitter the past few days.

Do miss the food though. The grub in London is as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

Asparagus Pub in Battersea  was good for us.

Can't imagine these gigs pay much.  A guy like Tony Smith who never made big money in the NBA might actually need a real paying job.  Same for Fitz.

I don't think anyone would be doing it for the dough. And it's not exactly a full-time gig.  There are plenty of jobs one could have that could work around the broadcast schedule.
Have some patience, FFS.

Mac is awesome.  My favorite line was when Homer was talking up his MU career, and Mac replied in a deadpan voice that he was only the second best center named Jim to have played at his high school.

Classic Mac.

The other one being Jim Chones, of course.

So who is the second best history teacher at Jimmy Mac's alma mater?

Not me, I'm the best!

It did not escape my notice however, that Mac and Chones are right next to each other on the team poster this year, right over Luke's left shoulder.   I doubt it was intentional, but I've pointed it out to some of the basketball players and other students.  8th graders lapped it up..."you mean two of the best players to ever play at Marquette BOTH went here!?" (...and Jake Thomas)

Not sure where you are eating but London is one of the world's great food cities.

From tapas to curry to steak to campagnard to bountiful fresh and local public markets London offers a dizzying variety of cuisines of stellar quality.

My thoughts exactly, its like saying the food in Chicago sucks cause you happen to not like deep dish and italian beef.  I don't exactly love classic British pub food, but I love eating in London.  The Middle Eastern, Indian, and Asian food alone are exceptional, not to mention high quality versions of any European regional cuisine you prefer.

As for the open radio gig, I don't think its anyone's full time job.  Pretty sure George Thompson still worked while he did it.  Someone like Fitz in financial management/sales could have the flexibility to travel for a few weeknight away games.

Keefe and Jwags85 are dead on from my experience.  I haven't been to London in a while, but everyone would say how bad the food is... but they are so wrong.  Maybe if you want a hotdog and a hamburger, it's bad, I don't know.  Maybe if you eat a traditional english breakfast it's not so great.  Maybe if you eat at a dive pub, it isn't great (but would it be here in the USA if you eat at a typical bar?).

But if you like Ethnic food, especially middle eastern, Indian, real Chinese, etc, it is world class.  As good as it gets anywhere I've been.

So, since I hear this so often, I'm curious about what you ate and where that was so bad.

Not being a huge fan of Indian food probably doesnt help.

Lack of Mexican food, and decent pizza are the two biggest culprits, and I havent really found a good Chinese place, my local one isnt very good.

Plus im on a student budget.

Honestly, it doesn't have to be anyone tied to Marquette. McIlvaine has been good not because he's a basketball alum but because he's insightful and entertaining. If they find someone of quality, I don't care if they went to Marquette, played for Marquette, or think we're in Michigan. As long as they deliver a quality broadcast, that's all we really need.

Anyone can capture the requisite enthusiasm when it's their job to do so. Just look at Homer. He has plenty of excitement in the broadcast, but it's clear in his daily talkshow that Marquette isn't a priority for him or his station.

For your play-by-play guy, I agree that ties aren't necessary.  But most color analysts - at least those in the upper Midwest - have typically had a pretty material relationship to the team...  Jimmy Mac, Larry McCarren, Max McGee, Ron Santo, Bill Schroeder, Tom Thayer, Dan Gladden, Steve Stone, Jim Sorgi, Mike Shannon, etc.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

I confirm that Mexican is one ethnic cuisine that London does poorly--especially if you have Chicago as a reference point.   Plenty of good pizza places, though, particularly if you are willing to go with toppings outside the standard fare.  Rocket and fried egg pizza anyone?
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

Try Wahaca.  Its a bit of a chain now, like Giraffe, but the owner was obsessed with Mexican street food so the flavors are actually very good and authentic.  Ive went twice on multiple trips and came away very impressed.

As for student budget, that shouldn't matter.  I was never fine dining.  The best places were small hole in the wall spots that were very reasonable.  I don't know what sort of Chinese dishes you're missing, but Chinese, along with Thai, Vietnamese, and Korean are pretty plentiful and fantastic.
