Track Movies

The two prefontaine movies in the late 90s

Without Limits (Billy Crudup as Pre, Donald Sutherland as Bowerman)
Prefontaine (Jared Leto as Pre, F Lee Emery as Bowerman)

1983 movie "Running Brave" (Robby Benson as Billy Mills, American Indian that won the 10,000 meter gold in the 1964 Olympics).

Finally, the best sports movie ever is Raging Bull.  Might be on of the best movies, in any category, ever made in the history of cinema.

That movie Southpaw that came out recently is actually a decent boxing movie. I wouldn't put it in with the greats but it's certainly on par with most of the other ones.

Also there's actually one MMA movie it's called Warrior, and while I hate MMA I must say the movie was pretty decent.

Glad you made this list I've never seen Hurricane and completely forgot about Ali, Will Smith was really good in that.

For hockey movies I really liked Goon.  Funny movie about a hockey enforcer.  It's on Netflix watch instantly.

Don't know why but glory road has always had a special place in my heart. Love that movie. Great soundtrack too with Alicia Keys.

I will have to check out "Pride".  I am a swimmer, and wasn't aware there were any swim movies at all besides "Swimfan" (which is really a moving about stalking, not swimming).

Have some patience, FFS.

Lets not  pollute our enjoyment of movie escapism with the subsequent real life amendment.

Hogans Heroes is not about a sex addicted swinger / unsolved murder victim ....that just took the wind out of the sails of 6 years of 1960s sitcom fun

Most of the best movies are Live Laugh Love.

Enjoy our day of thanks

Just watched Running Brave a few days ago while working out on the elliptical.  Great movie that I have watched several times.

"Without Limits" was a great movie about Prefontaine, but the movie "Prefontaine", was just absolutely awful.  Two very different movies and one captured Pre and Bowerman perfectly and the other was so far off it was almost comical.

Also, I second the post that McFarland, USA was a great cross country movie, despite most of the actors not looking like top high school runners.  Kevin Costner did a better than expected job as the coach.

Pre and Bowerman were contemporary to my time running cross country. The Donald Sutherland movie showed Pre's drive....amazing. Good flick.

As a related aside.....Bowerman invented and toyed around with track shoes at Oregon, designed and sold under a new brand name called Nike.

In those days (early 70s), the best, richest track runners bought the premier brand "Adidas"  named for Adi Dassler a german  track shoe designer. A few of my  fellow runners bought Tiger ( a Japanese brand...now known as Asics) . I bought a newly released pair of flat soled, new design CC shoes under the new brand name of Nike. I won the conference meet wearing my new Nikes. Having checked on Ebay, I kick myself now for  not having hung on to those first edition Nike shoes...collectors pay a fortune for them now!

I ran HS track in the mid 70s, and had a pair of Tigers and an early pair of Nikes (though probably not first edition).

You're correct about Tiger becoming Asics.  Back then, the company was named Onitsuka.  When retro styles started to come back, I discovered them once again selling old-style shoes under the Onitsuka Tiger label.

I remember getting my first pair of nikes for HS XC (late 70s) sold through a distributor with a trailer attached to the back of his car.  He came to our high school.  They were waffle trainers.
