https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/mar/15/us-senate-candidate-proposes-arming-homeless-people-with-shotguns

"Brian Ellison, who is running against Democratic incumbent Debbie Stabenow, says homeless people are 'constantly victims of violent crime' and providing them with firearms would provide a deterrent."

The Stabenow platform on this issue is, unsurprisingly, to provide the homeless with knives.

This quote confuses me

"Some of the biggest increases in diarrhea-related deaths have taken place in the Northeast and Midwest, for example — likely as a result of infections that stem from antibiotic use. "
Anti-biotic use causes infections?  Isn't that what they treat?
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

Its a side-effect of treating other illnesses with antibiotics. Antibiotics caused the C. difficile bacteria to multiply in a patient's stomach. When expelled, the bacteria then has the opportunity to circulate. In high antibiotic-use environments, like a hospital or nursing home, it can spread like wildfire.

For those that are older and/or comprised by other health issues, it can be fatal. Very serious.

I was on a very serious course of antibiotics after a bad case of cellulitis and it destroyed my insides. I had kidney issues, a bleeding stomach ulcer which made me anemic but the worst was C. difficile. I lost almost 40 pounds in two weeks. Horrible experience.

I like this headline:

The question is no longer 'Are we screwed?' That answer is unequivocally yes. It's 'Now what?'

Climate change, yadda yadda.  No need for the link, really.
