Honestly I don't think he is that interested in MU either and vice versa.  I don't know why on either side.  But this kid sure seems to be getting a lot of bad advice out there from someone.  Why not just stay at WI where you have a good chance to play?

Our guards are pretty set I guess.  What we need is some kind of big man so I don't have to keep looking over at SOTG listing and see Fischer because if that is our star of game, making the NCAA tourney is our peak.

Looking at the wording of Herro's decomitment letter he seems pretty set in playing out of state.  I'm sure Wojo shot him a text asking if he was still interested in MU.  If he said no as expected why waste time recruiting a kid who told you he's not interested.  Waste of time and makes Grimes think you are non-comittal.

That text never came.

Buzz went to the Elite 8 without a single juco on the roster.

Definitive proof that Jucos held Buzz back.

But Gonazaga doesn't get the type of recruits that you say MU has to get to be like Gonzaga, so....

Gonzaga also plays in a horsesh*t conference. Put the Zags in the BE, and they're middle of the road. Make the tourney some years, don't others.  Regular top 75 type team.  Not too dissimilar from MU honestly.

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Looks like MU finished for fourth Grimes...Texas in this week.

The way Stan and Wojo suddenly unfollowed him is strange. I wonder if something happened towards the end that Pissed someone off..because Wojo has followed recruits before that he was on and then ultimately chose somewhere else. be interesting to hear the backstory on this one.

Until the week is over we won't know if we canceled our visit or not. I don't think we grab him but I don't think the "3" was referring to us being out either

I'm not prepared to say that.  But it is pretty clear MU isn't interested.

Grimes is a special case.  After that we're done until such time as a scholly opens in my view.

Prepared to say what?

I agree,  you are right they don't want him I just can't figure out the logic why. His scoring skill set is incredible, a guy like Wojo could teach him the intangibles and make him great.
Maybe it is the other way around. He turned down MU for UW and then he dumped UW to go to even a higher level program. It is not logical to assume he would now be interested in MU after already rejecting them. Wojo would know, if he was interested.

Thanks for redirecting the conversation to recruiting. You have anything to add?

Sure ... I hope we get this Grimes kid. He sounds like a better-than-average player!

If we don't get him, I don't view it as a catastrophe or even a "loss." Nor would I award Wojo a red ribbon for being runner-up. That's simply college sports, and I'm experienced enough in life to have learned to not get bent out of shape about stuff I can't control.

I think we're going to have an enjoyable season. and I think the program is going to close out the decade in fantastic shape.

Who confirmed it? and where?

KU board has noted that Texas class is already full - actually one over, and that's assuming that two of their guys leave early for the draft:

"They actually are 1 over with Hepa.

Coleman, Davis, Roach, Osetkowski, Banks, Young, Long, Hamm, Sims, Ferbes, with Cunningham, Hayes, Liddell committed. That makes 13 without Hepa."

I'm not doubting this, as I said I don't think we get him. I'm just saying I don't think we're the one that was axed when he tweeted "3" I mean when he announced there's going to be hats on the table, I still think we're one of those hats.

I saw what muguru is talking about, however, he just said "MU is no longer in the running for Grimes" and offered no other details or information.

He's only posted it behind a paywall so I'd rather not say, however, he has been very reliable in the past.  I'm sure you can guess who.  Guru has pretty much spelled it out.

It's strange though that there was no details or any follow up information.

I deduce IWB is the source.  Maybe Dodds.  Either way I'd like to hear a BD update on recruiting for both 2018 & 2019.

Tommy/Cheesy, I know you "both" are new to Scoop, but Fischy graduated.  Whether we have "some kind of big man" or we don't, you won't have to look over at SOTG and see Fischer's name much longer since the 2017-2018 tally won't included players who no longer play for the Warriors.  Maybe you think MU won't ever win again, thereby never having another SOTG, unless they go after Herro?

The "yet" has officially arrived. Disappointing.

TAMU, Knower of Ball

To comment on something someone said a few pages back, I think the quality of parents is a bigger factor in recruiting than many might think. Coaches don't tell their players what they want to hear. They tell them what they need to hear to get better and to help the team. Oftentimes, players don't like what they hear. Unfortunately, the generation of parents today tends to side with their child over their teachers. I've always thought this comic was incredibly true:

Coach is just another word for teacher. Teams nowadays get good in one of three ways. They either add elite one and one type talent (Duke, UK, etc). Or they get old and experienced (Villanova, Wisconsin, etc). Or some combination of the first two (KU, Michigan State, etc). The recruitment of Grimes shows us that Wojo wants to get to that third category, but until we can attract that kind of talent, we have to go with strategy #2. In today's "Give me playing time or I'll transfer" culture, it is a great benefit to have players whose parents understand that what is best for their child is often not what the child might want in the moment. Look at Sacar. I'm sure he was devestated when Wojo approached him about redshirtting. But from interviews with Sacar, he said that he talked it over with his family and they helped him see that it was actually the best thing for him. Now he appears set to have a major role off the bench and possibly even a starting role. Sub in another set of parents and Sacar would have likely transferred.

I have no idea if Herro's parents are what's keeping us away. I have heard his dad is a handful but I've never met the man so I don't want to pass judgement. Personally, I just don't think he is a match for what we need. I think Wojo is focused on securing another PG in either 2018 or 2019.
