Tyger is from out of state and a 5*...Don't think MU has landed an out of state 5* ever..yet the dumpster fire that is Depaul does..Ugh.

Dean Meminger, Maurice Lucas, Butch Lee, Kerry Trotter, Doc Rivers....

That's why I cited the RSCI. Rivals was high on Mac, but he was realistically a top 50 guy, not top 20.

Mac was more of a Jerel McNeal ranked player than a Henry Ellenson out of high school. Tyger is a Henry Ellenson.

Theres a large difference in player caliber in your reference.

You missed the point that DePaul has landed very highly rated recruits in the past, and it hasn't resurrected their dumpster fire of a program.

And if this kid is a one and done, he's even less likely to bring the program back from the dead....

He could be a one and done but he's currently ranked #25 per the 247composite, the very back of 5 star status. Based on only that (not nearly enough information) I would guess he's a multi-year player.

Tyger Campbell by himself is not a sign that Depaul is resurrecting itself. In combination with some other things going on, I am starting to believe it could be possible. Letaio brings in a couple of nice transfers this year in Marin Maric, Austin Grandstaff, and Max Strus. The Eli Cain kid is a great player. I think John Diener is going to be good for them. All of the sudden, they are considered a  leader for Brian Bowen. New stadium will finally be done.

Not saying that it will happen (I'll believe it when I see it) but I think it could

So, what do some of you want from DePaul?  Continued irrelevance, or competitiveness?

A competitive DP is good for the BE and good for MU.  If DP is good, it is more likely that we will lose an occasional recruit to them, but I would much rather play a better and more highly rated DP team 2 or 3 times/yr rather than holding my breath every time we play them now bc of how bad a loss would look and feel while a win looks and feels utterly inconsequential.

Tyger = tiny wittle PG who doesn't score a lot. Meh. Maybe he'll grow into greatness, but probably more like a 40-55 guy in 2018

If you have a lineup that features seniors Brian Bowen, Jaren Jackson, Jacob Epperson and Jordan Poole, you're probably not encouraging your sophomore point guard to do a lot of scoring.

Tyger Campbell, 5 star 2019 PG we offered a couple months ago committed to DePaul today. Said he's tying to reclassify to 2018.
This is great for the Big East.

No, we just used different references, and in the 247 Koshwal was actually higher.  Hope you got that point....

I'm not talking about his HS team. Guys play games for more than one team

So Tyger only gets the easy assists?

Don't know a lot about the kid but anytime Izzo offers a local recruit there's likely some talent there. If he ends up being solid and coming here it would ease some of my concerns about the future of the PG position.

He was rated number 2 in his class, IIRC.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Of course, he could be a "multi-year player" in talent but that doesn't mean he'll stay for more than one year. Kids (and their handlers) overestimate their pro potential all the time.

I like Campbell, but there's a big gap between top-10 and top-25. Campbell is closer to Vander Blue or Jajuan Johnson than Henry Ellenson.

Similar talent wise, but Vander was much tougher (mentally and physically). Hard to gauge at the high school level.

If we're being honest, Vander was and is a much better player than JJJ. Both in stats and intangibles (winning games).

And he has a totally awesome name. Rocket sounds like the perfect fit for a program on the way up. Do his vertical and/or speed live up to the moniker?
