Sadly CBSSports is blocked here at work, anyone mind summing up the 3 points?

StillWarriors

1) Virginia won't be as good. Big on-court loss for them.
2) Some Memphis fans might be happy about it.
3) The kid may not like hoops all that much (he's just tall and good at it), and the writer (Parrish) wouldn't be all that surprised if he doesn't play anywhere again.

onepost

Parrish is a huge Memphis guy so I'm not surprised he'd sound off on Nichols leaving.
Hope we can hit the mid-year transfer market again and bring a Fischer/Ojeleye type in.

The silence was deafening when we had the #1 recruiting class the past 2 years...

So we have the Big East's best sophomores, the Big East's best freshmen, juniors Rowsey and Wilson (top 60) and seniors Reinhardt, Fischer (top 100) and JJJ (top 30). Sounds like a team destined for a championship, no?

This guy gets it. Wades knows what is up.

Some people just want to complain.

That whole situation reeks of a title ix issue. Would guess that we give him a wide berth. But yes, a player of his caliber would be awesome

Yeah...I didn't at all think we'd pursue and guessed as soon as I heard it that being dismissed alone would probably be severe enough that we'd avoid him. But musing over the idea of plugging a player like that into the lineup sure would be exciting.

Yeah, no cause for complaint these days. I love where we're at. Wouldn't trade it for anything. Anyone not satisfied with where we're at is just bitchin'...am I right?

Let's not shift the goalposts now.

Wades point was that bitching about the 2017 recruiting class specifically, without giving Wojo credit for the top BE rated classes in 2015 and 2016, is disingenuous.

brewcity77

The recruiting rankings aren't a problem. Wojo can clearly get talent. The only recruiting questions in my eyes are regarding roster construction, but the staff seems to be trying to address that by bringing in a bigger class next year.

Complaining about the 7th rated class in the league next year is just dumb because the staff has specifically targeted bigs for next year. Guys like Eke and John may not have us atop the rankings, but we need guys like that to compete. Would people rather we sign 6'1" to 6'5" shooting guards because they're ranked in the 50-75 range?

We're still after Epperson and I'm sure will have more names emerge in the next two months. 2017 is all about size and strength inside. If that means the rankings drop in order to compete physically with teams like Seton Hall and St. John's, so be it.

Wojo is doing a good job with recruiting. I like the 2017 class a lot. The bigs are going to be very helpful. We need more of them in coming years.  Very pleased with the 2016 so far. It is also a big plus that we have Bailey signed up.

Our problem is not finding enough talent to compete. The coaching staff has shown they can do that. We need a coaching staff that knows how to win games against other good teams. Easier said than done.

No idea what his transgressions were and my expectation is that they'd prevent us from recruiting him, but how insanely good on the court would an Austin Nichols mid year transfer to replace Sandy look?

Would he be immediately eligible?

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

I'm just curious.  It seems like Sandy could have made his decision 2 weeks ago and put himself in a much better position.

How?

He'd get two full season of eligibility instead of half a season.  Huge difference.  He'll have to sit out a full year and then be eligible for half a season due to his 19 minutes he played the last 4 games.

Seems to me he would have been better of just playing through his frustration this year, or made this decision last spring/summer.

I think 2 weeks later looks better too.  Why leave in the middle of the semester vs quietly during winter break?

any actual recruiting news? I know its november but im just wondering.

He would most likely have to sit out a year and be eligible as a senior next December, similar to Luke his sophomore year.

Now that said, I think it's highly, highly unlikely we would even consider Nichols anymore. Had he wanted to come here from Memphis, it'd be a totally different story, but now in light of the dismissal from Virginia, I'd say it's probably 95% that Wojo wouldn't even take the call and 4.99% that when he answered it'd just be a "thanks but no thanks" response.

As far as actual news...pretty quiet. My guess is the staff will be reevaluating options and we'll start to hear names in December and January, similar to when guys like Traci Carter and Sacar Anim emerged as targets.

MU should go harder at Jacob Epperson and Donnie Tillman both 2017

Thanks, I asked that before I realized he had actually played some this year.

Yeah, I think he only played in one game. Was suspended for a couple, played one, then dismissed.
