It's much easier for Crean to look good in the Big Ten than the brutal Big East.

You ain't lyin'.

Better west then red......

Arizona weather turns me red pretty quick.  Damn Swedish skin.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I would argue that Crean has not been successful at Indiana. He did build a team that was ranked No. 1 and also beat a great Kentucky team, so there has been some success. However, I define success by NCAA tournament wins. Given that Indiana was suppose to be such a big step up with great basketball tradition (after all "Its Indiana, its Indiana") Crean has failed immensely.

If failure is taking a team that finished 6-25 with NCAA sanctions to a team that was ranked #1 overall for the majority of a season and has been an ncaa tournament staple for several year, than sign me up for a steaming pile of failure!

Is it actionable in that if he said yes would Arizona accept his commitment?

Arizona will take him if he says yes.  He's not saying yes to anyone for a while though.

Better there than Madison, hey?
His mom likes Madison A LOT. Interesting to see how it plays out. Specific fit and other recruits will end up determining IMO, but my gut says Bucky, especially with the guys they have coming in (King and the two MN guys). If they get an early Hurt commitment, watch out (although I saw North Carolina offered him today). I don't see any way he ends up at MU other than J. Hauser and a national big committing, AND MU having a crazy great upcoming year. I think Ty and pops want the blue blood offers for ego, but will end up at WI because its close, it's big time and they love Gard.

Crean has been fine. He hasn't absolutely dominated the country and brought IU back to blue blood status, but he's brought them back to consistently good. I'd like Marquette to be where they are right now.

Crean "brought back" Indiana to a place pretty much inevitable as the state school in a talent rich region. After 8 years they're maybe a smidge better off than MU when he left. But comparing a blue blood's expectations (5 national championships with multiple coaches) to reasonable expectations for Marquette is absurd. He gets a C- from me, which is better than he gets from most of their fans.

Is Arizona more blue blood then Madison, I think the Badgers beat them twice in the tournament the last few years.  There always good at AZ, but fringe blue blood
in my estimation.

I would put Arizona in elite but not blue blood category. Their run of 25 straight NCAA appearances was very impressive but only 4 final fours and 1 championship as a program (great but not blue blooded). No history whatsoever before 1985.

That being said, Madison barely makes the top 50 programs of all time list. Now they are a blue blood when you just look at the 2000s. But you got to have the history to be a blue blood. And the Vadgers were dismal for over 50 years.

Madison has been highly successful since 1999, pretty much invisible before then.  No NC, but some nice FF runs.

Arizona has been highly successful since 1985, pretty much invisible before then.  Plus AZ has a few FFs and a NC to show for it.

If either is a blue blood, it would be AZ...but I still don't consider them in the same category as UK, KU, UNC or Duke.

Arizona in the same category as Michigan State. Wisconsin in the category right below.

Does the kid want to win a national title?  If so, he better avoid the B1G Conference as a whole.  They haven't won a title since his birth year.

Pac 12 hasn't made a final four in 8 years too.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the BE won a title recently? Maybe he should consider the BE.  ;)

Failure always has to be judged based on fan expectations. While as an MU fan you may think you would be happy with Indiana's results the last three years, the Indiana fans think they should be equal to Duke or Kentucky and certainly better than Wisconsin who pretty much owns Crean.

Failure should NEVER be based on fan expectations. They are irrational, shortsighted, and always want more. Marquette has failed every season expect 1977 according to fan expectations.
