Quote from: BCHoopster on July 16, 2026, 07:44:13 PMHow do you recruit any kids next year when you might have 14 kids back next year?  Hate to be a marginal kid next year! Those are the kids that will lose out

I expect there will be a transfer or two.  Who does is TBD.

Honestly, this is the year to go for those kids. The offers aren't really there for kids outside the top 20-30 yet, so hit the fringe five stars with the intent of creating a couple spots next April.

Shaka is at the Peach Jam today and was probably watching Micah Gordon, Frashad Tisby and Devin Cleveland.  Jaxson Davis didn't play in his teams game this morning.  Gordon and Tisby play against each other this afternoon and Cleveland is playing Davis' team, also this afternoon.  The teams for all 4 of these players may be playing their last games of the Peach Jam this afternoon.

Ugh that's one less quarter zip we can send to Wisconsin high school coaches up in spooner

No - Shaka worn quarter zips have more pull with the WI coaches...

Aaron Britt played well yesterday.......ranked 56th by 247.....point guard

Britt says he has two fall official visits scheduled to Butler for September 10th and Marquette for a date that is to be determined. Both programs are expected to be in the picture as he begins the process of dwindling his recruitment down.

MU has been mentioned with or is involved with Antonio Pemberton, Devin Cleveland, Micah Gordon, Jaxson Davis and Britt at the PG and Kamari Whyte and Gassim Toure at combo guard. Aiming high at guard in 2027.  I think Britt is the only one who has yet to visit campus, either officially or unofficially.

With the 5 in 5 rule happening shortly, how does any program really recruit kids?  Is Fru getting a 5th year? MU could have 14 kids back next year? Hate to be a recruit from 75 to 150 ratings, those kids will be having trouble getting Power 5 scholarships?  Thoughts?

The 2027 freshman class is going to get squeezed because with the hard roster cap and no one that has to leave due to aging out, there won't be many scholarships available. There will be the 30-50 players that leave for the NBA and the players that just aren't good enough for anyone to pay them up keep playing at the D1 level, but how many programs are going to pay unproven freshmen over experienced guys with 3-4 more years of development and growth?

Parish & Norlander talked about this on their show. The McDonald's All American, top-20 types will have offers, but outside of that, kids in the 2027 class just aren't getting the offers you'd typically expect, if at all. My guess is a lot will have to start in D2, D3, or JUCO.

There are plenty of low and mid major D1 programs they can get offers from before D2, D3 and Juco, especially if they lost players to the portal.

This was already happening. The 5 in 5 rule didn't cause Rick Pitino for example to largely stop recruiting HS players.

The new rule may exacerbate things at the margins, but the power conferences (aside from Marquette) were already trending to shift much of their recruiting to the transfer market. The rule change means they'll recruit fewer transfers, not fewer 4-star and 3-star HS players.

The bigger impact I think will be the '25 and '26 grads who took offers at low- and mid-majors, with the expectation that they would move up after a year or two.

And I doubt that anyone that would have been a power-conference HS recruit will drop to D2 or D3.  There are plenty of mid-major D1 schools that will be ecstatic to to take a 50th to 150th ranked player that's no longer getting B10, SEC or BE offers.

Galway Eagle

It'll just push everyone down a rung on the ladder. The top 75-150 kids will still play D1, they'll just be pushed from a place like Marquette to somewhere in the A10 AAC etc then the 150+ kids will be pushed down to somewhere like the MAC, so on and so forth. Honestly it'll probably help level out the playing field a little bit for a few years

WhiteTrash

Is there reasons to believe the 5 in 5 rule will survive? It feels like an arbitrary rule to limit professionals from having a job that would not hold up to age discrimination claims.

The straightforward solution, if Shaka is going to continue to recruit primarily high schoolers, is a 3 player class every season.  One guard, one wing, one 4/5.

The other thing to consider is the 15 player roster.   This could lead to a lot of turnover at the back end.   Low and mid majors might be the new JUCO's, sure, but there is going to be a nearly equal number of players moving down.  Players like Sheek, who have a year of development under their belt at a high level, but are now blocked and want minutes.

Two way street.
Matthew 25: 31-46

kclem

With good players pushed down a level, there will be more good mid-major teams. The NCAA tournament with the expanded field should be great.
