Quote from: Aircraftcarrier on January 10, 2025, 03:08:58 PMKarvala is the real deal and yes he is an athletic freak like Cooper Flagg. MU82 have you seen Karvala play?

Nope. I'm just a little skeptical when I hear "best ever" or "most" anything about any player.

If he's great and Shaka wants him, I hope we get him.

The only thing I've said is that in two in-gym viewings of him this year, he is the most vertically explosive player I've seen in person in Wisconsin since David Greenwood, who played in the state tournament for Park Falls High School in 1977-78 and 1978-79.  Greenwood would go on to become an All-Big Ten safety at Wisconsin in the early 80's and would win the Big Ten High Jump clearing 7'-2".  I haven't seen every player in Wisconsin in the past 50 years, including Messmer's Terry Black, so just giving my opinion on Karvala's jumping ability from my viewings.

To balance things out, these are area's I think Vaughn can improve upon:

1). Overall strength.
2). Improve his strength with the ball in traffic.
3). Like every high school player, an improved focus on every play on both ends.
4). Weak side defensive rebounding.

All of these area's are typical improvement focuses for every high school player who will play in college.

The area's that I think go overlooked by many is his ability to pass and his willingness to pass.  I also haven't seen any negative emotion from him on the court to opponents and teammates and I pay attention to that.

On a final edit, I go to games often with a guy who I would bet has seen more Wisconsin high schools games than anyone in Wisconsin the last 40 years.  I asked him if a player currently playing a 5th year in the Big 12 is a good comparison and this player will probably eclipse 1,400 points at the Big 12 school the last 4 years and my friend said he feels Karvala is better.

Thanks for the info.

Would the Big 12 player happen to be Gabe Madsen?

Yes and the context was at the same point of their high school careers.  His opinion.

Thanks for this insight, Ted. He sounds like a good one, and I hope we get him if Shaka wants him.

Everyone needs to calm down. Karvala looks great but he is not close to Cooper Flagg and he is not a better leaper than Tokoto

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

Nobody is saying Karvala is as good as Flagg.  They are only saying both are white men that *can* jump.

So could Wally Ellenson.

willie warrior

Sounds like a great prospect.
How does he compare to these oldies from Wisconsin?
Sewell from Grafton late 60s
Pieper from Wausakee in 80s
Blanton Simmons from Milwaukee in mid 60s
And a really great one Downtown Freddy Brown from Milwaukee
Some here probably never saw these guys play in High School
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind.

Thanks again.

Whether it's Vaughn Karvala, JJ Andrews, Ethan Johnston, or Alex Egbuonu, it looks like Shaka is well positioned to grab an athletic wing or two.

If the coaches want them, it is good enough for me.  Looking at the players Shaka is recruiting, what is interesting is the lack of bigs and the lack of pure PGs.  That tells me some things.  1. They like what they have at those positions. 2. With 15 scholarships, it appears their goal is 3 bigs, 3 PGs, and 9 switchables.

They will have 6-9 Sheek Pearson in for a
visit this month.  From John Burroughs HS in St. Louis.  Built like Oso.

Not sure if this has been mentioned here or not, but pertaining to Karvala.

Spoke to a local high school coach friend of mine who has connections with other coaches in the Madison area. Heard a rumor that he is leaning towards MU, but that is entirely dependent on whether or not Purdue offers him a scholarship. Apparently Painter (Purdue's Coach) was roommates/close friends back in their college days or something? If Purdue makes a push, we might be toast. I don't have any facts to back this up. A simple "scoop" I heard this past weekend.
