Recruiting as of 4/15/25

Let's pump the brakes.  Last year was a high water mark class for McDermott.  He had 4 top 100 guys.  We know Shaka can recruit as good if not better and he's been an ace in the transfer market. 

Nembhard, Hawkins, Kaluma, and Kalkbrenner is a nice young core, but I'm not sold that it's vastly better than Kolek, O Max, Kam Jones, and Joplin.  Plus I'll take next year's class, transfers not included, over Creighton's

Hawkins enrolled in college in 2016, that's six full years.  He should be done.

But he never got to campus.  And McDermott doesn't regularly bring those sort of dudes to Omaha, so I stand by what I said.

Nick Janowski from Pewaukee has an offer from Shaka as well.  Plays like a bigger Kolek, probably a better fit in Shaka's system than Milan to be honest.

St Thomas More and Milwaukee Academy of Science both have multiple 2024s that are going to be high level D1 recruits as well.  Both of the MAS guards are big time athletes, and we know Shaka likes that.

Thanks for the info.  I didn't realize MU was after Janowski, too.  6-4 Guard from 2024 class.  Stats show another excellent shooter.  I'll have to keep an eye on him.

That seems like a high bar considering he's available and hasn't even been a minor contributor this year, except for a few spot minutes against the bottom of the conference (except the Providence blowout).

Interesting if he stays around or not, coaches say some things sometimes to make the kid stay around, he might play some 3, if he can defend.

Why can't we ever land a skilled big guy like Kalkbrenner to wreak havoc in the low post?

Ryan was close to choosing Stanford. In the end he picked Creighton. Paul Lusk recruited him a long time.

Many thought McDermott would not survive his "plantation" kerfuffle, yet he recruits guys like Kalkbrenner and has 3 guys on the BE all freshman team. The Bluejays are in better shape for the future than we are with our young club.

Or maybe the same seed as we are.

I don't even know if these are the two most must get teammates in the state of wisconsin. Amari McCottry and Sekou Konneh at St. Thomas More both are athletic wings with really high upsides.

The Wisconsin HS class of 2024 is shaping up to be very strong.  I just read 6-2 PG Tyshawn Bridges is ranked #1 in the class by WisSports.

He plays for Milw Academy of Science, which made it to State in D4.

Pretty confident that Ellis will be behind Kolek, Jones, and Mitchell on the PG Depth Chart.  Not to mention Shaka is recruiting guys like Skyy Clark and Thiero.  I'm interested to see how things play out there.

Shaka Smart was in attendance last night in Ohio, just one day before Selection Sunday. Marquette Commit Sean Jones (Blue #5) and Gahanna lost to Marquette Recruit Devin Royal (White #21) and Pickerington Central 59-42 last night in a playoff game.

Sonny Styles (White #24) also stood out and upon internet investigation found out he is the #1 DB in football committed to Ohio State.
