Who are the people who said this?

Good luck to him.  I think he will eventually make the league, but this is a bad decision on his part and a bummer for us.  That said, he and Dawson were only gonna stay one more year at most, so might as well move on and let the younger guys get the reps.  Will be interested to see how we pivot with this news on the transfer front.

Yes so best to get as much young talent in as possible and let them grow.  Even if DJ stayed this year he would have left next year so may be actually doing the team a favor long term by leaving now.

Honestly, good riddance to anyone who thinks they're better than they are. Wojo probably told him he was the next best thing to Wade at Marquette to get him here... Wojo suffered from an ego.

Among many.

But you're right. I probably should have been more critical of the significantly larger group of Scoopers who couldn't help but crap on DJ.

Anyhoo. Recruiting thread. Who we signing next?

He's only gonna be a college sophomore? You've been talking about him for so long that I thought he was in his 30s by now!

He will be a senior. Or it will be his 4th year, not sure how that works with the Covid year stuff.

Biggest risers in final 247 rankings:

Jonas Aidoo, from 80 to 42
Emarion Ellis, from 103 to 79

Why he rose: It is going to be interesting to see how Davenport (Iowa) Assumption product Emarion Ellis develops on the college level.
Originally committed to Texas he's following Shaka Smart to Marquette and has a high ceiling for improvement. Though he's skinny, Ellis doesn't lack for toughness and while pushing 6-foot-5 he has elite quickness and ability to change directions in tight spaces. He became much more confident and assertive on the offensive end of the floor during his senior year and is only scratching at the surface of how good he can be. If he continues to improve his jump shot and adds needed strength, he could surprise some people in the Big East.

TAMAR BATES

Recruitment: Signed with Indiana.

Previously ranked: 60.

Now ranked: 26.

Why he rose: A native of Kansas City, Kans. who spent his senior year at powerhouse Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy, Tamar Bates is another who has experienced a meteoric rise over the last year. Originally committed to Texas before Shaka Smart left for Marquette, Bates is going to be a key piece to what Mike Woodson is hoping to build at Indiana.

Affectionately known as "Scoop", Bates is a 6-foot-5 two guard with wiry strength, scoring ability from deep and ability to get to the rim. Playing for a program filled with ranked players, Bates was often the best player on the floor and there is never any question about whether or not he's going to show up ready to compete. He's high energy all of the time and will undoubtedly be a fan favorite in Bloomington.

Do we have to question Shaka's recruiting if he couldn't reel in Bates with the built in advantage of us already naming our main message board after him? That takes the username initiative to a whole new level.

The Sultan

I heard Shaka cooled on Bates because there were concerns that he signed an endorsement deal with the mods that gave him half the subscription fees.

This is great PR for Emarion.

I was sold on Emarion after watching all his football videos. He is an old school three sport athlete ( also runs track in the spring)

Looking forward to seeing him live.

Juan Anderson's Mixtape

The JUCO guard just committed to Georgia.  Per his Twitter.

Crean was never afraid of JUCO's.    Lott.   Kinsella.   Blackledge.

Marcus Jackson was the only worthwhile one.  Coincidentally, Jackson had committed to Georgia out of HS.

IIRC, he didn't qualify academically so he went juco.

Time dulls some memories.   I thought Marcus was a traditional transfer.   I am getting old.

You may be thinking of Robert Jackson, who transferred here from Mississippi State.
