Maverick Carter has come to speak to us a few times, he is good friends with an old boss of mine.

I always chuckle at Ben's interview with Maverick.

https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/sixers-ben-simmons-on-his-time-at-lsu-i-dont-really-know-what-i-learned/

Doesn't really have anything to do with my point that there was a bunch of five and four star talent around him.

To everyone else I'm sorry for contributing to this getting off topic and will stop.

Ben Simmons...went to school for winning and such.  LOL
I thought everyone knew Ben Simmons went to LSU because he got paid to.

Seriously, am I wrong?

Cheeks

Karim Mane I have seen as a 3 star, 4 star and a 5 star

Why such a huge spread for this guy on evaluation?

You mean he didn't go for the winning program.......

It happens with a lot of international players. Some services don't invest time into scouting international players.

Cheeks didn't actually care about the answer. He just wanted to pretend he was contributing to the discussion on the midst of all his BS about having read top ranked recruits say they're more concerned with getting to the NBA and less concerned with winning in college but when he was asked to provide a single link backing the claim he came up with a guy looking back on his time in college and saying he didn't learn anything in college. Goalpost shift. Ruining a thread. Then pretending he was contributing to the discussion. Next comes the victim card. Wash. Rinse. Repeat. The dude's as predictable as they come. Antagonize and then play victim. Cry afoul when called out. Sad.

Are we recruiting Ben Simmons?

Doubt they'd be targets, but the Mitchell brothers are transferring from Maryland. Hope wojo stays far away from brothers from now on.

Oh I think it does, Ben Simmons didn't go to LSU to be part of a winning program, nor was it very important to him...which is what I said.  Sure, somewhere in there winning was brought up as an after thought, but his intentions were primarily about how do I go to "school" without having to go to "school", get drafted and make the association.  Which is the case for some other top guys as well.  I suspect we will see even more of this in the future as they go international,G League or whatever they choose to do.  I don't know why we are pretending that SOME of these guys just don't care a ton about it...it's fine...some are brave enough to admit it while others play the PC answers like it was Crash in Bull Durham.

For those interested Justin Lewis plays today in a tournament at 2:30 central.

Should be able to watch it here

Lewis with a double double. 10 def rebounds as his team won by 10

That depends in today's college basketball, there are some of high profile guys that don't care a ton about winning and more about getting to the NBA.  Look at some of the programs they have signed with to prove my points.  Ben Simmons to LSU.  Memphis recent signing.  Massey to Western Kentucky.  craptu to Vanderbilt, Brown to Nevada. Porter to SC.  Dort to ASU.  Duke and Reeves to Providence.  Etc.

Of course some kids want to win and go deep, but let's not kid ourselves that there are a number of kids where that is icing on the cake only, they want to hit the NBA.

Since you're making up stuff about top players who turned down the blue bloods why not include HE?

Some of the other coaches/teams there were also watching their commits on other teams. Illinois was there for Adam Miller (Morgan Park) Wake Forest, etc...but also watched Holmes. David Grace recruits Holmes for Vandy. .....Stan recruits Holmes for MU, The tourney is in Killings' recruiting geography. (Lewis is playing in the same tourney, a Killings' recruit)

Again you are inferring. It is most likely that Simmons thought he was going to win no matter where he went.  These guys believe they are the best. If he wanted to be developed to make the league he would have gone elsewhere. Instead he thought he was the best and was going to win.

If he just wanted a place to go without having to "go to school" he could have gone to Kentucky or you name it university.

For every reason you have for it not being winning for going to LSU, he could have done at any other university. Even ones that were more likely to get him a championship. So it isn't that he was ok with not winning but he was actively looking for a school that wouldn't win.  Doesn't seem likely.

He went first in the draft. Didn't seem like the school negatively impacted his status without winning.

Finally, he only had 5 offers. Kentucky was not one of those. He has LSU, Florida, Kansas, Ohio State and Washington.  Only one that is a perennial winner is Kansas.

Not making anything up...not everyone cares about winning as they do about getting to the next level.  In some cases, the winning is fairly far down the list...sadly.  If you wish, you can talk to a few high level D1 coaches who will confirm this for you.

Thanks

What threw me off are two recent Michigan State articles about this kid.

Two weeks ago, headline is MSU offers Mane, a 3 star kid.   https://spartanswire.usatoday.com/2019/12/10/michigan-state-mens-basketball-offers-2020-three-star-guard-karim-mane/

But three weeks ago, different MSU site says Mane is a 5 star kid.  https://spartanavenue.com/2019/12/06/michigan-state-basketball-visiting-5-star-karim-mane/

I figured it was an error...so I looked it up, sure enough the major services are all over the damn board on this kid which is why I asked.  Appreciate the answer.

Can you explain why two articles serving the same fan base had such wildly different ratings?  I read the articles today, asked the question here after looking up the ratings myself....we are recruiting this kid...and two people here gave legit answers.  Thank you to them both.
