Agreed.

Honestly, if I'm QG I would wait to commit until the spring, unless I'm going to Marquette or Texas. UK and KU both have potential to get caught up in the fallout from this. Plus both schools could have some experienced guards coming back. UK has two top 30 type PGs in their 2017 class that may or may not go pro, not to mention Immanuel Quickley already signed up. KU has the potential for up to 6 guards returning in Newman, Moore, Garrett, Vick, Cunliffe, and K Lawson....none of whom are locks to go pro. Plus, they may land Dotson tomorrow and are the favorite for Langford. Why not wait and see who leaves, who stays, and who gets sanctioned?

Mohamed Bamba's half brother seems like he simply was a selfish, untrustworthy clown, but would anybody be at all surprised if Texas, of all programs, paid a top 2 player in the country to come to the big bad state school?  I certainly wouldn't.

Also, any school that has had Buzz Williams running it shouldn't be guaranteeing everything was done by the book...

Texas certainly might but I haven't seen anything linking them to it yet.

And I am positive that not everything was by the book during  Buzz' tenure.  I am also positive that this current probe will not result in any sanctions for Marquette.

Grimes is in Lawrence today and tomorrow. Everyone pray/hope for bad weather and a flat tire on their ice cream truck.

So Dotson is announcing (at 6:00) today while Q will be in Kansas, do I have that right?

Correct. Gives them a chance to do damage control and try to spin it into a good thing if he commits (still leaning that way). Or to try and tell him that they were never that invested in Dotson and Q was always their #1 choice if he goes to the Terps.

Will be interesting, if Dotson picks Kansas what story does Q hear.

They will try to sell him a couple things

1. They use a two PG system (which is true)
2. Dotson and Grimes will be those 2 PGs (debatable)
3. Malik Newman and LaGerald Vick are going pro (I doubt it)
4. Charlie Moore will be a backup, not going to be a major player for minutes (not sure)
5. They are putting together a super class of Dotson (#24 overall), Grimes (#16), Langford (#5), Williamson (#2), De Sousa (#31), and McCormack (#39) to combine with their three transfers (Lawson bros and Moore), and other returners to win a national championship....but he will still somehow get a ton of playing time. (Not happening)

Dotson to KU doesn't give us Grimes. But I can only see it helping our pitch.

Anything is possible but even Dotson goes to Maryland I would be surprised if QG announced for KU this weekend or cancelled his MU visit. Even though we are focused on making the other finalists lesser, our staff has done a great job recruiting him and selling him on Marquette.

GOO

Would they tell Grimes that if he commits before 6:00 today, they won't take Dotson?  Or is that too risky for KU, as it could upset Dotson if he finds out that was on the table this afternoon?

Or, does KU value Dotson more than Grimes?

In reality, KU may already know what Dotson is going to do later today.

They haven't landed a blue chip PG recruit since Josh Selby in 2010...and even he didn't do much for them before heading to the NBA. My guess  (and that's all it is) is that while they think Grimes is the better player, Dotson fills a need better. I don't see a situation where they tell Dotson no just to get Grimes. If they miss on Grimes they still have Langford and Williamson on the line who could play a similar role. They will try to get as many 5 stars as possible. That just seems to be the way you win if you are a blue blood nowadays.

One thing I am sure Wojo is reminding Grimes is how rarely Self plays freshmen at the point. Wayne Selden was the 2nd point in 13-14, Tyshawn Taylor was the 2nd point in 08-09, Mario Chalmers was the 2nd point in 05-06. Bill Self has NEVER played a freshman as his lead PG and only three times did a freshman play as the starting "2nd PG" in his system.

I would also assume that the coaches already know Dotson's decision but are respecting his wishes to announce to the public. Though the Dotson's have been pretty tight lipped throughout their recruitment so maybe they are keeping coaches in the dark.

I would think Kansas is 99% sure on where Dotson is going.

I remember when Haanif  made his final selection. He had the three hats out and he picked up ours.
Lets hope that we are the hat Quentin Grimes wears.

FWIW, Adam Zagoria is picking Dotson to Kansas, Ayala to Maryland and Duke to Providence.  He's usually pretty good with the information with all 3 programs.
