Are you considering the possibility that a lot of high level recruits for 2017 and 2018 may end up being ineligible? MU's 2017 class consisting of three stars may end up being one of the better classes. Until all the shoes drop in this investigation, I would not be too excited about any high level recruit.

Related to this, imagine what the next two NBA draft looks like.  Many may be eligible this season, while everything is uncovered, but know that after that they will have no eligibility.

Yeah, I can't help but think that kids who decommit at this point -- especially ones who are being outed as "Player-X" --
might find programs a little skittish about recruiting them.

Just glancing at the 2019 player rankings and found this humorous: Mark Watts is ranked 54 and Rocket Watts is ranked 68. Mark Watts IS Rocket Watts... Does MU get credit for two top 100 prospects if they land this kid?

He's the 54th best recruit in the country, unless he's having an off shooting day (then he drops to the 68th best).

Sharing a nickname with Kim Jong Un has knocked him down 14 spots.  Thanks Trump.

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

QG @ UK today... Seems to be ok with playing off ball with Quickley in the mix.  https://www.seccountry.com/kentucky/kentucky-basketball-recruiting-quentin-grimes-interested
Still think Vegas would put us at 9:1 dogs.

The article is from Sep 20.  Talks about five interesting recruits.  Summary for Grimes is that Kansas is the favorite, though they have many options at G.  Texas is hoping to keep him in state, Quickley signing does not rule out Kentucky pursuit of Grimes.  MU is the wild card and the coaching staff is going all out.

Not much new there.

Here is the Marquette mention:

The wild card is Marquette. The Golden Eagles have gone all-out for Grimes, sending the full staff (head coach and three assistants) to his games in July and doing the same for an in-home visit last week. They also get the final official visit, in late October.

The mentions of the other schools are all along the lines of what we've seen posted here.

That article is about a month old and contains this line:

"When he trims his list of schools in the next two weeks, Kansas, Kentucky, Arizona and Texas will definitely make the cut, Grimes said."

There could be other factors that caused the Quinerley commitment to eliminate Arizona...but I think its more likely that recruits say what reporters for specific schools want to hear. But still, UK and KU can offer a lot of things Marquette can't and TU is a local state school, it's a lot to overcome. Gonna be a tough recruitment but the staff seems to think we have better than a puncher's chance.

In related new, ESPN Insider has Grimes going 8th overall in the 2019 draft.

In other words, a one and done. Not a big surprise, though.

Point was he's at UK right now and a past article explained how he'd be cool there even with IQ running the point because of their track record of using multiple guards and ability to get people to the next level.  We've discussed how having IQ commit might change things, since he's still visiting I don't think it has.

I can think of about 150,000+ things UK and KU can purportedly offer him that we hopefully can't.

Calm down.  Its just a misprint from Watts being moved down, the player newly ranked at 54 is a PF named Ivan Renko.

wadesworld

If Grimes were to come to Marquette (I expect he won't but just theoretically) how would this class be ranked nationally?  With it being a smaller class (only 2 class of 2018 recruits, as Bailey will still be counting as a 2016 recruit) my guess is it wouldn't be top 10, but both of those recruits would be top 40 kids, with one of them possibly in the top 10.

And then there's Bailey who I think I have higher expectations for than most.  I think he could be a really, really big steal.

It won't surprise the coaching staff.  They are already strong for 2019 PG recruit De'Vion Harmon, also from Texas.

Wonder if MU tries to get involved again:

Five-star PG Courtney Ramey just decommitted from Louisville, his father, Terrell Ramey, tells Scout

Ramey has said his recruitment is wide open, starting from zero and that he is likely a Spring commitment somewhere.

Fair point, but how he handled the Quinerley commitment to Arizona speaks to the contrary. Priorities change and recruits sometimes tell reporters who are attached to specific schools the things they want to hear even if they are not true.
