I rank him better than Cheatham, for sure.

Considering Haany has 60% of his CV left to fill out, I'd hope Wardle with a completed CV would be ranked higher.

To your point...  Pretty even so far but slight edge to Cheatham.

Wardle freshman year:  10.3/4.1/1.4   eFG .431
Cheatham frosh:  11.8/3.4/2.2  eFG .543

Wardle soph:  12.3/3.3/1.7  .437
Cheatham:  11.3/4.4/3.3  .490

I tend to agree with you, Sultan ... but if eFG is everything, as some here say, that edge doesn't seem slight at all.

Let's be fair, Lenny. How many of Buzz's top high school recruits panned out for Marquette? I like and appreciate Buzz - not as much as you, I know, but I do. Buzz had all kinds of good recruits come and go, and even many of those who stayed bit the big one. He won because he was great at recruiting and coaching jucos, as well as more off-the-grid kids (such as Davante). Nothing wrong with that in my view, but it would be easy to take a look in hindsight at many of his top classes and list the Maymons, Smiths, Taylors and say, "You call that a recruiting class?"

Don't disagree, Mike. Some of Buzz's better recruiting classes didn't look nearly as good half way through their sophomore year as they did when they signed their LOIs.

Well sure.  If you put it that way Kentucky's recruiting classes wouldn't be any good anymore after one year either.

Well sure. But our "one year recruiting class" gave us an 8-10 record in the Big East and no tournament. Kentucky's (in Cal's 8 years) have given them 1 NIT, 7 NCAAs, 6 S16s, 5 E8s, 4 FFs, 1 National Runner up and 1 National Champion.

So, not a very good analogy.

Oh.  Here I thought we were discussing what our recruiting class ranking would be today.  ::)

Fire Wojo, Hire Cal.

Not unless he hires a defensive specialist as an assistant.  He gave up 47 2nd half points to a bad Miss. State team.

Here you thought wrong. We were discussing what our recruiting ranking would be today AFTER getting nothing from it in year one.

We didn't get nothing from it.

Proof remains in the future but Froling mentioned Ellenson specifically as a reason he transferred in. Basketball results weren't what we wanted but if Ellenson's 33 games in the uniform lead to interest, and commitment, from other highly rated prospects then surely we can claim that we got a scintilla above nothing from that class.

Haanif Cheatham alone is far from nothing.  Kid is going to have a very, very good college career.

Which was double the number of Big East wins as we had the year before. How is that nothing?

Under .500 in conference, no tournament of any kind seasons are nothing seasons (IMO) for our program. I guess our standards for accomplishment/celebration are different.

Ah the shifting goalposts.

You originally said "getting nothing from it in year one."   Brew never said he was celebrating anything.  He simply said doubling conference wins isn't "nothing."

The progress may not be enough in your eyes, but it is progress.

I swear, if Wojo brought in 5 McDonald's All-Americans people around here would complain that it wasn't 6.
They'd complain that after 4 of them turned pro, the class wasn't ranked nearly as highly anymore

That depends on where you rank Wardle.

I honestly forgot that Brian was a Deane recruit.  It'll be an interesting debate in a couple of years, I'm thinking.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Make the NCAA tournament and almost everyone will stop complaining, period.  Until then...

No, we'd celebrate the great season that the class brought us - and hope for a reload.
