The ranking combined with the schools were competing with for many of these kids is concerning, at the very least. It's one thing to compete for an unranked kid with offers from Nova, Texas Tech, and Virginia. It's another when you're trying to beat out Rutgers and Harvard.

Like I said, I'm hoping Shaka's eye for talent is significantly more accurate than other high major coaching staffs and the recruiting services, or that he's a miracle worker in developing talent.

Norman was one of the top players in the NEPSAC last year and helped lead Worcester Prep to the NEPSAC AA championship last year.  He follows that up with being one of the more productive scorers in the Nike EYBL.  BABC teammates Power and DuCharme also played well at EYBL and the high major interest picked up and why those 2 and not Norman?  The obvious explanation is the word was out that he had already narrowed it down or had already made a decision.  His AAU coach wasn't promoting him as an uncommitted prospect on Twitter either.

Zaide Lowery played JV for much of his sophomore year because the varsity coach wanted him to get minutes instead of getting reserve minutes on a state championship team.  He came off the bench during the tournaments.  Played well as a junior (all state in Missouri's largest classification) and played well this summer on an AAU team that isn't part of the shoe circuit.

As has been mentioned in articles, Amadou is on the developmental track as a player and hasn't played basketball for more than 4-5 years.  He and Lowery have high major athletic ability.

When has a narrowed list ever stopped the big boys from coming calling when a prospect blows up?

When Norman blew up at the Peach Invitational, there was a lot of talk about his recruiting blowing up. He was the second leading scorer that last week of EYBL. But he stuck with his original list. Worth noting what Andrew Slater said:

He's a loyal kid. Think this is a fait accompli...September announcement.

At the time in July, the September 6 deadline was set and everyone following the recruitment had a pretty good idea where Norman was going. If he goes elsewhere, feel free to quote this, but his recruitment and list didn't blow up after his PIT breakout not because he didn't deserve it, but because he already knew where he was going.

My guy, gonzaga wanted to start talking to him in June, but he already made his 'commitment' a while back. He has offers from Miami, Georgetown, Texas A&M.

The talent is certainly much worst than what Wojo brought in.

I thought Shaka was supposed to be this great recruiter and he's bringing in mid-major types at MU.

I am delighted with all 3 of Shaka's recruiting cyles so far.

First Cycle picked up two transfers with 4 years of eligibility. Kolek and O-Max.  Retained Two of Wojo kids and brought over 3 of his Texas kids. Did that on very short notice

Second Cycle picked up 3 players with well defined skillsets needed for Big East level play. Also not much time to finalize those recruits.

This years group is very impressive. Two very lengthy and athletic guys and   and if all goes to plan , on September 6th , we will pick up a talented, crafty and smart player, whose style  looks perfect for The Big East

These are all players MU can win with  in The Big East.

It doesn't. But if the kid isn't interested, they aren't wasting their time.

Shaka needs a home run and so you cite a kid outside of the top 50, and undersized SF whose main interest in ND and Stanford?

TAMU, Knower of Ball

Once Norman commits we will not only be oversigned for next season but also the season after. It will be interesting to see how they approach the 2024 class. You would think that would allow them to really focus in a few top recruits. So far, the top three recruits they have offered are currently  ranked #25, #28, and #31. The next three after that are #65, #66, and #68. I think Shaka is going to continue to focus in on recruits who will be in school multiple seasons.

Norman is the guard that just fits. He makes more sense than a lot of guards on the roster.

An odd statement.   Why do you think that?  What does he have that you feel is lacking elsewhere?

Reminds me of the type of guard Nova likes.  Good footwork, not a sniper but good enough shooter, plays with good pace but under control, bigger guard, isn't really an above the rim player but still uses his size to get to the rim and into the lane well, uses the ball fake well.

This is the first thought I had too. His game looks pretty polished already.
