I think recruiting is a lot like the NFL draft, it is a numbers game and fingers cross on how guys pan out. Obviously, the chances are much greater for success if you land a consensus top ten guy, but after that I think there is a lot of luck. IMO Garcia is a perfect example of it being a bit of luck on high big of an impact their career ends up being. Garcia was a nice player, but I do not think he played to his class ranking while MU.

Until proven otherwise I am going to have trust in Shaka's recruiting style and see what happens. I think getting guys that want to be here, fit the system and are hungry might be the best plan of attack. I am very anxious to see the YOY improvement on the returning guys and see if it is part of Shaka's system. I am confident we are going to see the returning guys playing at a higher level this upcoming season.

His composite ranking was #37 and he averaged close to 13/7 as a Freshman. He obviously hasn't done much since then, but I think his Freshman year performance matched his HS ranking.

I thought he was higher rated than that. With a 37 ranking he played up to or close that ranking. I guess my point is that IMO there is not a crazy amount of difference from guys ranked 40th-100th. I think a lot does go into guys fitting into a program. Hopefully that happens at MU.

I tend to agree as long as a coach is pulling players that fit across that rating spectrum.  If a coach is fishing/landing in 80-100 zone it's a recipe for Mike Deane results.

I forget.   Is that considered a good thing or a bad thing?

Tre Norman stats, per synergy. 10th best volume player in the EYBL based on PPP. Had the second most possessions per game among the top 10.

I think Norman is due for a big jump in the rankings, though playing in the PIT might keep him from rising as high as he could have. Guessing he'll be in the 45-55 range, but had he done the same on the main stage would probably be going top-30.

I am not going back to look it up, but the only top 100 I remember Deane signing was Brian Wardle. He succeeded mostly off of O'Neal's recruits.

Wasn't Cordell Henry in the top 100?

Not according to RSCI. He might've been in one service or another, but I couldn't find any evidence.

You're correct - his rsci was 120. My recollection is he made some top 100 lists but obviously he was left off more often than not.

Loved Cordell. I feel like he's a really forgotten player because of his timeline. Most of his career was the end of Deane's era and the first bad Crean years. Glad he got 2002, but also too bad he left before the Final Four. When I enrolled at Marquette, he was one of my first favorite players.

Nothing empirical (outside my memory), but he was. I'm obsessed with such things.

I really liked him as well.  IIRC he killed DePaul every year.

Vander Blue Man Group

So are we still very confident Norman is committing or is Rutgers a legitimate concern now?

Not to state the obvious, but I assume, as with every player, it comes down to money. I'd hope the dollars are bigger at MU than Rutgers.
