Sucks to lose him, but almost impossible for MU to compete with schools like UNC for recruits. "Being on him the longest" and "making him the priority" really only means something when recruiting a kid along with other schools in the same tier as you (Pitt, Gtown, etc). When a school in the next tier starts calling (UNC: Davis, KU: Grimes, etc), your efforts pretty much get voided and thrown out the window.

MU has to land the recruits in the 75-100 range and hope they develop into solid players. They've done a pretty good job with that in wojos tenure imo despite the non-existent post season success.

At the time Mark made his first pick, I would assume Davis was a heavy Marquette lean.

Why? Because a guy clicked in a marketing tool? Bizarre

No, because Mark has always provided really good information on scoop, and other boards.

A marketing tool click May or may not be good information - you don't know the quality or reasoning behind it. Without that, it's nonsense for the mindless masses.

I don't look at his one click in a vacuum. As stated before, in the past Mark has provided this board with great scuttlebutt. based off of his previous performance his "click" carries some weight. He doesn't just throw ideas out there to see what sticks.

He has. Nobody here believes Mark's words though, only the almighty crystal ball.

The Crystal Ball thing is just an educated guess. It's kind of a fun thing to do, but truthfully, recruiting is so hit and miss that it means little.

Having said that, I do feel good about Marquette's chances with Ike Eke.

Memphis' Penny Hardaway and Mike Miller will meet with five-star senior Dawson Garcia today, a source told @Stockrisers. First by my guy @RyanJamesMN.

Marquette needs to keep pounding the table on playing time. Also , Marquette should push the fact they do not have to recreate the wheel for a small stature guard like RJ. Marquette has proved with Markus and Rowsey they understand how to run their offense through these type of guys. In fact when those two played together they both averaged over 20 ppg. Markus in line for National Player of the Year says a lot  about understanding how to work with these kind of talents.

Carolina never really had a smallish guard in their system even the players they had that were short were heavily muscled guys.

I would hate to see RJ go to Carolina and become just another guy in their system ,  I believe
that would be a waste of an opportunity .  Have seen a lot of kids in that Carolina system come in with  big dreams and then get recruited over. Most recent was Seventh Woods.

If RJ commits to Marquette the chance for him to blossom and flourish is so much more realistic.

The word from a poster on our board and this was from before the UNC visit was that Mom preferred Georgetown, Dad preferred the opportunity for playing time at Marquette, and RJ was leaning towards Pitt. This was from talking to someone high up in the NY high school basketball media.

Ty Lawson and Marcus Paige would be a comp for RJ. I am sure they are harping on that.

Four-star center John Hugley just committed to Pitt, he tells @Rivals basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/four-star... pic.twitter.com/bQmNqIpgNP

So technically Pitt is now out of scholarships...not that that means anything..But..how do you tell RJ, Xavier Johnson is leaving next year and the keys will be yours...and then what if he doesn't?? What if he gets hurt, or has a terrible year and wouldn't be drafted(2nd round now)??

Marcus Paige had tremendous length which he used well , he also grew a couple of inches. Although true he never had much weight.

Ty Lawson was a very strong and built guy.

Carolina point guards are actually point guards.

RJ game is very similar to Markus, why is what makes him intriguing to Marquette. Just plug and play.

Was his name Gus Ganakas?

Oh, and how about we let RJ announce before we admit defeat?
I mean, OK, maybe he's secretly a serial killer who's pulled the wool over our eyes with his good deeds and smooth jumper - Pakuni (on Markus Howard)

What do you mean "if Wojo lands Dawson and RJ?" RJ gowne, hey? I mean, that's what you posted the very second it was shared someone crystal balled him to UNC.

Actually, I posted "He gowne?", not "He gowne."

So it was a question, not a statement. There's a difference. Sadly, though, it looks like that question mark is trending to a period. Tough loss for us.

lessthannick11

There is a new article in The Athletic talking about UNC going after more 5-star players to get their class to #1. No mention of RJ Davis. Hopefully he reads it and sees he might not be a priority
